Have you checked that the drivers for your graphics card are the latest available? If it's fairly recent, they should be downloadable from the manufacturers website.

We had this years ago when my daughter got it and we had to upgrade the graphics on the pc to run it, at least I think that was what was needed?

cooper1303, try ending tasks that runs in the background, the less you have open and running, the better. The Sims 2 eats a lot of resources on your computer. Have you also tried installing the latest DirectX?

Have you got enough RAM on your computer to run this game?

My daughter has all kind of Sims games and my computer with 512 ram struggled with them. They used to hang especially when trying to close them down.

They seem to run ok on the laptop she got for Christmas 1gb ram.

have you tried "googling" the error? it could also be the drivers that is not installed properly...

make sure you dont have screensaver set to run after a certain time.
Likewise with antivirus scans and defragmenters.
You can try downgrading the graphic resolution etc,it is in the settings somewhere on the actual game.
Look on the install disc as I think that has advice about trouble shooting.
Check out EA the sims website as it has a huge forum(or used to when we first got Sims2)
