Advice please on internet package

Hi
I'm hoping somebody can help. I am looking for internet access at home. I am interested in the tiscali phone + internet package (6.49 for 1st 3 months then £12.99 for next 9 months making it the cheapest if all I want is a 1 year package) because it also offers free calls. I have a disconnected BT landline so rang BT to reconnect it (for £124!!) intending to then take a package with tiscali for phone and broadband. BT tell me that they will reconnect my line for £124 but will have to charge me a cancellation fee for going to Tiscali. Isn't this insane! All I want them to do is reconnect the line.
I then rang Tiscali hoping they could reconnect my bt line of my behalf but they can't do this.
Am I missing a trick, is there any way round this except:
1. paying BT £10.50 a month and getting the plus net package (8.99 a month I think) - i.e. much more expensive overall...
2. getting a 3G package and forgetting about my phone line?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Best regards

without doing the maths, taking into account the disconnection fee, would plusnet actually be much more expensive? I, personally, would only recommend tiscali to someone that i really, really didn't like (and was unlikely to see again in case they got violent), though i do understand getting something for next to nothing seems too good to be true, there's a reason for that.....Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

tiscali can reconnect a line, but they just choose not to - but i wouldn't use tiscali... too many horror stories!0

I too would advise EVERYONE, avoid TISCALI in it's various forms. this company is absolute rubbish."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

thank you for all your replies I will stay away from tiscali and probably reconnect with BT and go for the Plusnet deal...
Thanks
