I want to insurance our DS who has just passed his test (17) on our corsa. But for me and OH it is only £200 and to add our DS the cheapest is £1358
Does anyone know of any companies that give better deals than this?
Thanks

Gwt it him to become a girl that will be cheaper.
Sounds about right though but try Tesco, Kwik-Fit and possibly RAC.
Have you run it through confused.com?0 -
you could try quinn- they seem to come up very cheap for cover.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."
FEB challenge £128/£270 balance £142
£2 saving club £1400 -
Thanks I'll try all those now. I had no idea it would be that expensive I remember being on my parents insurance and it not being much extra! Maybe we will have to think again but I was hoping to give him a bit of freedom and experience before he goes straight to buying his own!0

At the amount it's going to add to your insurance, mayaswell consider buying him a banger and have him insured in his own name earning his own no claims. You can also add parents as named drivers on his policy, sometimes that reduces the cost. It might cost about the same, but he will have his own car - make sure to check as many insurers as possible for both adding onto your car and insuring him on his own car, cancelling your current insurance and going to another may work out cheaper. Sites like confused.com help.
I checked how much my insurance would have been if I was 17 and just passed, would be £3000 odd with same insurer. I paid just over £700 for first year when I was 26 and had just passed - insurers do definitely cane the younger drivers, but then again they do have most accidents.0 -
Double post by mistake so deleted this one.0

Thanks... I agree they cane young drivers as they have the most accidents and are less experienced on the roads and that is why I would prefer him to be on my insurance than have his own car for a while so I can still 'control' his use of it by limiting times to have it home at night etc but he can still be gaining experince and having some freedom because I know how much you want to just drive when you first pass your test.
I have just checked some others and up to now the £1358 is the cheapest, but I will keep looking I hate to beaten and hope to find something cheaper0 -
Direct Line added about £450 to our policyholder/spouse £200 insurance when we added DS to the policy aged 17 (he is now 23 and has his own car and policy).
Direct Line also allow named drivers to build up their own no claims bonus whilst only a named driver on another policy.
Some friends also found Direct Line the most reasonable price in similar circumstances to us.
Worth a try getting a quote (unless that is who you have been quoted by already!)A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0 -

When does your current insurance expire?
When I was learning/just passed I got added onto my dad's insurance for a couple hundred quid, for I think 3 months0 -
Thanks sbck....For quote purposes I am just putting that I want the cover to start tomorrow but it will be the full 12 mths that we want him on the insurance anyway.0
