Help:existing T-mobile customer after new deal

I would be grateful if anyone could offer some advice. I am an existing T mobile customer and my contract has expired. I am very keen to maintain my existing number but not my current tariff.

I have approached T-mobile as advised by this website but had a very disappointing response from retentions, both in terms of a new plan and a phone upgrade - especially compared to the deals they are advertising at the moment, which only appear to be available to new customers.

My basic question is if I sign up for another T-mobile phone and plan, say for example through one of the independent suppliers such as dialaphone or e2save will I be able to retain my number?
Also do I have to contact T-mobile to cancel the current plan or is it automatically changed?

Just to clarify I have no desire to leave T-mobile, but if I cannot get a good deal I am prepared to change network and get the number ported.

Thanks in advance

  • Simply Answer no you cannot retain your number if you sign up for new a T-Mobile Contract in a shop. They will issue a new mobile number unless you have used a PAC Code. The only way around this is port to a pay as you go sim on another network company then port back. I left t-mobile, moved to virgin mobile for 8 days then ported back to t-mobile to get a good deal.

If you have your PAC Code (which you need to request from T-Mobile) and you use it within 30 days to move to another network it automatically cancels the contract.

I would request a PAC Code they might give you a better deal when they think you will leave.
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

When I was with T-Mobile, I always found them to offer very competitive deals when I 'threatened' to leave them. I was surprised by the offers they made me, considering I never really went beyond my free minutes on my cheap tariff. However, with a little negotiation, they agreed to discount the monthly line rental on a new tariff from £27 to £17 and provide a free handset (initially up to £50 in value, but I managed to get them up to £100). Unless they have changed immensely in the last year or so, they should be quite willing to negotiate with you.
  • Thanks for your responses.

I should clarify it is actually my wife's phone and agreement.

I actually primed her with examples of deals they are offering to new customers (1/2 price line rental for 12 months etc.) and told her to ring back and ask for a port number. Apparently it did not take long befoe she was offered an equivalent deal and a new phone. I should add it is not a latest model phone (Nokia 6020) but the priority was to reduce the line rental and retain the free muinutes and texts, which she has managed to do.

    Thanks again for your help.
