Getting Travel Insurance when you have cancer

Afternoon everyone, I feel like I won't get the result I want, but here goes.
My mum has terminal cancer and has been given 6 mths, however, if you saw my mum you wouldn't believe it. This is the woman who can shop for hours and I am the one who is tired. She was diagnosed in July, however, we would love to go to Florida in December, after my daughters wedding. I am worried that we won't get any travel insurance. The diagnosis seems really difficult to comprehend at the moment because mum is so well.
Anyone out there had any experience or can advise a good travel insurance. We were going to take a view 2 weeks before we travel on this, but I have a feeling we won't get the insurance in the first place so don't want to raise mum's hopes.
Any advice or help, your experiences on this would be useful to me, regards, platty.

All the criteria for health screening has just changed ....hence higher prices.
I have a history of breast cancer (in remission) diabetes type II and bronchial asthma. I called around several insurance companies and was quoted silly prices.....the highest being £1400  This was for 2 weeks in Florida next month. Many of the insurance companies would only cover for all the medical conditions. A kind person on here directed me to Columbus Insurance, who insured me for £32.50..... but anything to do with breast cancer and diabetes was not covered....at my request. I figured out it would be cheaper to catch a plane back home than pay that amount of money.0 -
sorry to hear about your mum. For travel insurance Cancer and USA are pretty much the worst scenario you could pick, given the high cost of medical treatment in the states. You could try cancerbackup - i think they reccomend some firms for this Cancer backup insurers list
Columbus' phone number, as mentioned above, is 0800 083 9503.
HTH - good luck.if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0 -
Thank you Liverbird and Porker, I did ring the number you gave and thank you for that.
However, it looks like with mum being terminal we won't get insurance. The only way to do this is to exclude the cancer part of the insurance.
If mum is still OK in December we will take the decision then, we have all booked the holiday time off, so we can make the decision right up to the last minute.
Like you said, you get the next plane back, cheers for the support.0
