huggies are usually on bogofs, i get them and then wash them if not too soiled with poo. use them time and time again, they are quite good quality and can be washed many times. they are really soft after washing, so i use them for runny noses etc, as they are much softer than tissues which often make nose sore!

I also wash and resuse 'disposable' wipes. I am too squeamish to do it with the pooey ones though. :o

I had a couple of the Johnson Softwash cloths given to me and they wash really well and make good dusters, wipes, all round cloths. ;)

Don't know if this helps but the mid-wives & HV have advised us to ONLY use cotton wool & water for Spuds bum for at least the first 6 months but they have said there is no reason why we can't stick with this for longer, even when he goes onto solilds.

No reason at all - we did for a while - then got a reason.. he became a toddler and SPEED at change time is now vital - especially as he likes to help and gets the toilet roll to do it himself... (we use washables so i use toilet paper followed by a wet wipe for easy fast changes!)

  • I wouldn't plan on keeping wipes made up with camomile tea more than a couple (at most three) days as they'll start to niff a bit.

I have in the past made wipes with unused nappy liners as MIL went crazy when we were expecting Charlie and bought nearly 1000    . They're the same as fabric ones but use less liquid!

What a great idea!!! How do you wash the huggies wipes. Can you wash them in the washing machine or do you hand wash them? I am going to buy some Huggies wipes the next time I see them on BOGOF and try it out. This is so much cheaper than using the wipes and throwing them away.

I have now started using water and cotton wool again. Will try out the Huggies washed and water when I buy a pack.

I have left the pampers wipes for when I am out and about. I had a look at organic wipes in Waitrose and even they had the chemical called "Parfum" that friends of the Earth say you should avoid.

I've used the following in a mister bottle to spray right onto baby's bum and to also soak wipes in directly (when I get organised enough to do in advance!)...

1 part baby wash (head to toe type stuff)
    1 part olive oil
    10 parts water
    few drops lavender oil

I've also used cold cammomile tea but it stained my mister bottles :(

I know I am being silly but what is baby wash? Is it baby bubble bath? Would it be OK if it was made without babywash?

I stick mine in the washing machine at 40 degrees.

Thanks for that. Do you put them in a bag before you put them in a washing machine? Or just put them straight in there?

I keep a stack of 20p flannels in the bathroom and try to remember to grab one on the way to the changing mat. I run one under the tap just before I use it.

Then at the changing mat, I keep a toilet roll which I use to get off the "worst" of it. After all, we grownups use it. All that's needed then is a quick once over with the damp flannel. It doesn't get all that mucky then.(You can use old towels or any old rag really.)

Passing the bathroom afterwards, I flush the toilet paper and poo, chuck the flannel and nappy in the nappy bucket (with white vinegar solution of course) and then wash my hands. I could cut out a bit of walking and change the nappy in the bathroom, I guess.

It's great because there's nothing to throw in the bin, the washing is not at all troublesome and it's cheap.

I'm on baby number 4 now, but I wish I'd done it with my firstborn. Could have saved a packet on baby wipes! Isn't it funny how "convenience" items gradually get accepted and then become "necessities"? :rotfl: Oh well, I was young then and just saw ads and what everyone else was doing and thought that was the only way. Getting old and stubborn now!
