ASDA: Bad treatment over MOC's

Options
Just come back from Asda.
I had about £8 worth of shopping, went to self service till and wanted to use two coupons - one from yesterdays Telegraph newspaper (£1.95 off Spectator mag), and a £1 huggies.

Put the Telegraph one in the slot, then an SA came and said 'You can't use them'..

Then another SA came and opened the machine, looking at the newspaper coupon saying "you can't use internet coupons here", I said it was cut from a newspaper not from the internet.

She began studying it, then another SA came (dressed differently, so I assume may have been a supervisor but never seen her before). She said "You come here often with alot of coupons, and we can't accept them". (I wouldn't say I use alot, maybe a couple on a small shop, or about 4 on a larger shop). Does this mean they have been watching me, or I wonder if she just said that to try to put me off using any more coupons?

I visit this store about once a week, I use coupons from couponnet, and other manufacturers coupons like nappy ones, and newspaper/mag coupons.
I usually go to a manned till, and have had no problems.

She was rather snotty about it, and said "If you haven't bought the product, we cannot accept the coupon". Which I know is wrong.
I tried to use some of my knowledge from this site, and asked if she could accept a % of the shop, but was told NO.
You'd have thought it was coming out of her own pocket!
I told them that I only wanted to buy the milk then (as this is the only thing I really needed).
The first SA was still holding my coupons, and I asked for them back, but she didn't answer and proceeded to try to cancel the shopping on the til.
I then just thought balls to you and told them to forget it, I again asked for my coupons, but the SA said no.
I left the store.

Don't think I will be going back there again, rather go to a shop that has pleasant SA's, and know the stores policy's.
And I don't like the idea that they may have been watching me, just for using coupons.

If i were you i would write to their head office. Asda policy 10% so i have been told some will take more. It's not just about the coupon policy though but about the way you were treated.
If they refused to give you back your coupons that is wrong to refuse them is one thing but to take from you something that is yours is stealing I think there head office would be intersted to hear how the shop assistants behaved. If they have treated you like this they have probably done it to others and i would say it is worth bringing that to their attention.
I would mention how it made you feel and that you feel uncomfortable returning to that store
  • I wouldn't write, I'd ring them as you don't get a reply most of time.......... Thats terrible.

I would not stand for that one bit, get on the email to them stating what you just sayd. I was refused couponet coupons on a shop so wrote to the manager at couponet who advised me that they do take internet coupons i emailed asda they replied stating they do take coupons off the not up to 10%. I went shopping with my net coupons they refused i had managers down showed letter said they look into it, i told them i aint moving till they do they knocked me 10% off and now they look into it they say they can take internet coupons have informed staff and i have no trouble what ever at all.

ps. when i initially emailed asda i asked for gesture goodwill for my trouble they sent me ten quid gift card - get onto it i will post the letters again but if u complain maybe they will eventgually train their staff.

    Thanks.
I have emailed them about this, as I did make a mental note of the two SA's names involved.

Some stores staff seem to know the coupon policy, and some don't.
Anyway, I explained in the email how rude one particular SA was, and how humiliated I felt. I also told them that from the comment made by the SA, I feel as though I have been watched when shopping, as though I'm some kind of criminal.
I'll post back if I get a response.

My local Tesco has much friendlier staff and much better coupon policy, so I'll be doing my weekly shop there from now. :)

This happened to me on monday when I used 2 x 2.00 Moc's at the self service till.
I have never been made to feel so bad about using a coupon.

Let me know how you get on as I have also emailed them about it

i got the email from bounty to print my voucher for the family essentials pack and took it to asda - the only place it could be redeemed. my local asda didnt have it so i took it to one stop perry barr in bham. i attempted to use it there and fely humiliated! she was like we dont accept printed ones.i said it said on the computer to print and she said but id have to check with my manager and she isnt here so leave ur number and i will ring u.i said its a bit far to come back for the sake of a free pack! it was embarrasing to the point where i didnt want to exchange it again. she asked me to get one of the actual not printout and i said where do u want me to get that from? and she was like i dnt know, i aint got kids. yes but ur working there so u shud find out - of course i knew the answer; from bounty!

anyway i came home and emailed bounty and asda. all i got was an apology and to printo email and that all staff had now been briefed now and it i had any more problems, to let them know! y on earth they couldnt have briefed before i dont know!

hahaha you can only laugh, snotty supervisors? Who the f*** do they think they are? Last time I checked they were in a low paying, dull, no skills required job..and yet they get snotty? Jesus

Neither of the two near me take any coupons unless you buy the product. I have asked on numerous occasions and been told it is the discretion of the store manager. Is this not correct then? Its annoying because it restricts my couponing to tescos and I would like to escape from them.
