I find the budget planner is probably the most useful thing on my computer, it means I can see a big scary red or a nice healthy green. I used to be very awful with money, now I'm down to slightly silly.
Also reading about people and willing their situations to get better is always a good motivator. Not an expert, but I try and contribute and I'll always listen. Middle child of middle child parents. I drink way too much coffee.

MSE has been life changing for me in so many ways! I've made some great friends, learned alot about myself and my finances, picked up great tips on saving money & joined some great challenges & mos impostantly paid off 10,000 since my LBM! Still 27,000 to go so will be here for a while but its fantastic to be amongst peple who understand what its like to be in debt & all the consraints that go with it...plus have managed to convert a few people along the way!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

Oh lots of things really.
The budget planner and snowballing tools really gave me perspective.
Reading other peoples stories helped me see that actually it's not just me in this situation.
Reading other peoples SOA's and the tips other posters give them has helped me to see where i can save and improve my situation.
Having a place to post a diary where i can be honest about how i feel about things and get support from others is fantastic in that it keeps me motivated and lets me "vent".Total debt at LB Moment (Nov 2007) = £6583 £4649 20.03.09

Great thread;)
MSE & DFW has helped me to realise I was not the only one in debt, as friends all seemed to be doing OK, it made me feel really irresposible.
I've met some fabulous people on here that are non-judgemental & full of great ideas, I've read some truly inspirational stories where people have managed to pull themselves out of debt, by taking on extra work, selling on ebay, clicks etc also learnt about quidco, great recipes, great freebies, free bingo sites, fab comps - so much there is too much to mention.
I've also learnt not to be complacent, & to carry on visiting the site to keep me on the straight & narrow:DComping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner

I agree and they are all friends who don't judge your situation, only understand what your going through.
Through this site I have reclaimed back all my charges which has managed to get me debt free and taken a whole lot of stress of me as well.
I've even stated to make some additional money through Quidco and Amazon Marketplace, something I would never have tried before.0 -
first time poster here!!
I think its the change in mindest thats helped me most - I have big debts the OH doesnt know about, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now, I've got a plan for paying them off, and I'm starting to really think about what I spend and save (eg quidco house insurance! previous quote £185 for the year, quidco quote £105 for the year plus 75 in cashback. total saving £155 for that spend alone).
plus I suspect my pals who spend recklessly are probably far worse off than I am, they just arent admitting it!0 -
For us it is much the same too. Also watching our debt total going down each month & the challenges/support threads help us stay focussed. Without this site & you good people we KNOW that our debts would be alot worse than even before our LBM! All the best!!I was just wondering what it is about this site, especially DFW forum has helped you the most?
For me it is reading the stories of other people and realising i'm not alone in this, lots of people are trying really hard and doing everything they can to be debt free and giving lots of useful advice when i'm having a crisis. Coming on this forum helps me to keep the momentum going and makes me stay on track!
Thanks everyone!
