Me too - I think it's all to do with what you do next. If you contact the sender legitmately, I can't see why anyone would mind. It's not like holding up the bleedin' stage coach and stealing the Queen's mail or doing a Ned Kelly (not that I have an especial problem with that either.)Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

It's no big deal.
In one address we were at, were getting letters continually for previous occupier...I retnd to sender.
One day I decided to open one up. Debt collection Co. I 'phoned them and they didn't believe I wasn't the person. I told them to send the bailiffs in...all you do (IF it gets to that) is show a passport and council tax bill...Simple.
No bailiffs ever came.
In this house we are getting the same letters for previous occupier (who left 7 years ago) and yes I opened one and returned it with 'refer to letting agent and their address'.
In 1996, we had just bought and I had the Flying squad turn up for previous owner (plus a lot of dodgy drive bys, calls etc). Also, they had not paid a lot od debts too.
Applied for an Ikea card the following week...no problem at all
Don't stress about it...just return the post and know where your ID is, should you need to show it0
