Does spybot slow down PC?

    Have followed rancid-a's suggestion.

Also deleted 100 + photos, needed sorting out/reducing before any back up anyway. Probably will have to plough through another 500 or so.

Then re-booted, seemed to get back online moderately quickly.

Questions: Would the photos effect RAM? Or are they stored on hard drive? Where can I see if there is space left and how much?

May not be using quite the right terms, apologies, it's all very much a foreign language to me.

Re above exchange and initial question, for the time being, I'm leaving spybot and teatimer and all the previous security running, as most of you seem to suggest this is not the main cause of problem.

However, I am still interested in everyone's opinion!

abs - your photos are stored on your hard drive, they do not take up any RAM so don't be too concerned about deleting them.

As mentioned earlier, your system would benefit more RAM - it's dirt cheap these days, you can get 1Gb for around £12-15. Go to crucial.co.uk

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Go to crucial.co.uk, run their system checker and it'll tell you what your system is capable of taking. Then check mymemory.co.uk (via quidco) and get some more !! You'll be suprised how easy it is to fit, and amazed at your system's performance improvement :D

Bit of an aside but, make sure that you have the latest 1.5.20 Spybot as they seem to have sorted out the problems with slow opening etc.
This was particularly noticeable to us with lower spec PCs
    Move along, nothing to see.

When installing Spybot DO NOT iinstall the Windows 'TEATIMER' setting (I think thats what thedy call it) - it monitors all your processes ..etc and will put an overhead on your system and will annoy the hell out of you, without endless palying around with exclusions..etc.

Check the SBHelper for IE and standard settings after install (Imunisation/update weekly ..etc) - I have never had a issue with SB for 6 year - fantastic product.

Just saw other comment - in my opinion SpyBot is the best, most efficient, free, light app for spyware.

The other poster obviously is a technophob and doesn't know what they are talking about.

How the hell can a bit of software that keeps your system clean and working intimidating? LMFAO!!

Some improvement today, got here within 4 min after switching on, after following rancid-a's suggestion.

Watching task manager like a hawk, start up activitiy seemed to be a bit of AVG, lots of teatimer and fair bit MSN messenger. So have un-installed MSN messenger (don't really use it, just the kids).

I can live with this speed, but will look into getting more RAM. And backing up the photos and essentials.

Thanks for all your help, guys, this really is a fantastic site! :A

I got rid of spybot and adaware and speeded up my pc. I have used both of them for a long time and found that others were more effective at finding mal/spyware.

Do you have AVG configured to scan at startup. This is not necessary as you can decide when you want to scan.
