XP Version 2002, 1.41GHz, 256 MB of RAM
haven't found which version of int exlorer yet.
changing browser, I think it's beyone my capabilities!0 -
...............I looked at that last night, for someone like me that's a mountain to climb! Will do if there is no easier alternative.
It really is quite easy if you just follow the instructions. It sound like you have some malware running on your system which needs removing. You will get help on here from experts in this field if you get stuck.
OH says let's buy a new computer  , but that's really out of the question, got enough debt as it is  . Was meant to be a joke, I hope!
Having watched task manager without doing anything, it seems iexplore.exe is taking up 10-30% of CPU, which seems a lot, when I'm not actually searching for anything.
Does not sound good!
Another question re back up (never been my strong point
), lots of photos I really don't want to loose, what's the quickest and cheapest way? It took weeks, okay, lots of hours, to upload to an on-line photo album in the past. Thinking of USB key, someone recommended this, where do I get this cheap, what does it look like, where does is plug in?
USB flash drives, which simply plug into a USB port are available everywhere, the last that I bought was from mymemory here depends what size you need but they sell good brands discounted.

Download and install HiJack this http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis
Copy and paste the report here. I would suggest a RAM upgrade as 256MB is a very small amount to run XP properly.0 -

absfabs You mentioned you have lots of photos on your PC. Do you know how big your hard drive is..and how much space you have left. I suppose that could slow things down a bit.
You could do with that extra bit of RAM too
Something else that might speed thing up a bit...
Go into Control Panel...System...Advanced Tab...Performance Settings. In there, you might be able to get a little RAM back by disabling a few things (or just tick the "Adjust for best perfomance" bit)
Good luck
PS. Never ever had problems with Spybot...although the new Adaware software is utter pants and DOES slow down my system when running.Sealed Pot Challenge 15 #78

Interesting, did download a lot more fotos over the Easter hols, maybe this is the problem. If I put them on a memory stick - planning to do this for back up and portability - this should free up space?

Where do I see this info? Is it the 1.41 GHz? How/where do I see how much is left?

Just done this, desktop looks a little flat now (not a problem), logged out and in again, and yes it seems quicker. Thank you :T
Good luck

Thanks again, everyone, for your suggestions. Will try sort out memory stick/back up over the next few days and will keep you informed.0 -
Spybot is not worth having- it is designed to intimidate people because it alledgedly checks lots of dodgy sounding things.
You should stop unneccessary programs starting with windows.
Try and remove any progs that you don't use.
Run the free kaspersky online virus scan.0 -
