    I think you are wrong...

You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion.
    But I know I am right. :D;)

PS "negative" and you only need one question mark. ;)

    It's a quote.
You can tell, because it's in quotation marks.

    Thanks for playing.

Thank you for allowing me to do that.
However, I use UK English rather than US English, so it doesn't apply ...

I look forward to reading your forthcoming and, doubtlessly, erudite publication, "Usage and Abusage: A Guide to Good English".

I will read it avidly, as soon as it appears on the head of a pin near me.

Its sister publication "Ignorance and Pedantry in Bulletin Boards" will almost certainly be a weightier tome.

I couldn't quite fit it on a pin. I hope you have your options set to view avatars! ;)

Ah! You are really Eric Partridge, posting here under a pseudonym.........;)

You may wish to allow this thread to return to its original topic, by discussing your interpretation of the word 'may' with the publishers of the OED. I count eight instances of the word used, in both its conditional and permissive senses, on that page as opposed to one instance of the word 'might'.

Wonderful! A row about English usage and abusage on MSE. What I want to know is : if a minor difference between 'may' and 'might' drives you potty, how do you cope reading 99% of these threads, since NOBODY seems able to write even fairly basic English - I'm talking split infinitives; spelling; grammar in general; punctuation (my own included).

    Row? What row?
I'm having an interesting discussion with fellow philologists ... ;)
Or would you prefer the term grammarians, Baldur? :D

Still, we've been OT long enough.
Back to more serious things ....

Perhaps you have the security settings incorrect? Or it could be the cookie settings.

KE doesn't work with the Mac versions of Safari or Opera. It's fine with Firefox.
  • Thank you martyn 4764. I was absollutely delighted to finally get an answer to the question what I originaly asked. (I however do wish that KE said this their selves somewhere in it's info.) Thank you also Baldur for trying to stick to topic. I hope the others have had a good nights sleep and feel better.
