Faulty fridge to be replaced but why does the guarantee not start again?

Legally the original warranty still stands if its exchanged however some retailers will start a new one, all depends on what they wish to do0

The woman said that if you buy a product and 98% of them last 7 years (there are statistics) then you should expect the same for all 100% of them so the manufacture must fix (both parts and labour) the other 2 to bring them to the same standard as the other 98.
The fact that the warranty has run out is irrelevant, 1 year, 2 yrs, 5 yrs whatever - if 98% last 7 years then they have to fix it.
As I said when you posted this identical post on another thread - how on earth do you prove that ?0 -

My post is not identical - as it says in the brackets in my post 'they keep statistics' on how long things should last.
It's not for me to say how they know or provide the proof but it worked for me and also for my mum so it's worth a phone call to Trading Standards. Buy the extra years warranty if you prefer, up to you. They helped me draft a letter. Got a result for my mum in three days.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
you are wrong ! most places now run the warrenty from the original purchase date.poppyolivia wrote: »No, NEW product New guarantee.......I think you should phone about it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The warranty runs from the original date of purchase if the product is replaced or repaired, spares fitted under the manufacturers warranty do not carry any warranty beyond the expiry of that warranty. Nor does the goods.
If you read the terms of virtually any manufacturer warranty it will be saying that the manufacturer can "repair or replace" within the period and this is over and above your statutory rights to a repair. It does not say *anywhere* in the Sale Of Goods Act that the warranty would be extended as suggested here at all, in short there is no requirement to do so and, if you do get offered that then it is a bonus, not a right you have.

if it does go faulty when its just out of its original guarantee i would phone the manufacturer, they will know if that machine is under warranty through its serial number, if that's the case then they would just ether send an engineer to fix it or have a local repair centre that would do the work.
i did a similar thing with my vax, it was just over a year since i bought it from argos , phoned vax and they said it was still under warranty , they had a courier pick it up and did the repair and returned it all for free.
