Faulty fridge to be replaced but why does the guarantee not start again?

To sum up. We bought a Bosch 15V20 Exxcel undercounter fridge last September. Worked fine until last week when it just defrosted for no reason. Power still on, humming noise etc. but fridge wasn't at all cold. Phoned Co Op and they arranged for engineer to come. He came the day after phone call - good service.
Engineer said fridge needed to be replaced. First he said it was a compressor fault then he said it had been filled with the 'wrong mixture' at point of manufacture and it clogged or comething like that......... I'm not technical at all LOL.
Anyway on paperwork saying when new one is to be delivered it says that the guarantee will still run from the original date of purchase. But the fridge we are going to get is completely new! Shouldn't the guarantee for the new fridge start again? It is a completely different appliance.
Has anyone else had this experience with a replacement product? It doesn't matter whether it is a fridge or anything else.
It doesn't seem right to me.
Your thoughts folks?
Thanks HD.
PS This thread is also a heads up for anyone with the same model.

No, NEW product New guarantee.......I think you should phone about it.You may walk and you may run

Because otherwise people will diarise for when the guarantee is about to expire, and then it will become 'faulty' again. And so on forever. (Unfortunately this does happen when unscrupulous people want to milk the system).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Nope the original guarantee still stands0 -
Whitewing - you can't fake a fault on a fridge. It either works or it doesn't. Under the terms of the guarantee if you report a fault and the engineer can't find one you get charged for his visit.
Poppyolivia - I do plan to ring about it before the fridge comes - just wanted a bit of 'ammo' from the good folk on MSE.Don't grow up. Its a trap!

So theoretically we could have the new one - then it too breaks down at a later date but because it is out of the original guarantee period then we're not covered at all?
Seems crazy.
Been lucky so far I suppose and haven't had applicances go wrong. Well - they have but it has been really early on e.g. the first couple of days or just not worked at all. Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence for Bosch fridges if they can fill it with the wrong mixture!Don't grow up. Its a trap!

But you havent lost out have you, because you still have the same guarantee that you had when you first bought it.0 -
we got a replacement dvd for a faulty one and they wrote on the original receipt the date it was replaced and advised us that the guarantee would run for a year from the new dateThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

found this on the trading standards website

Q. I bought a microwave oven four months ago, and it went wrong. The shop has replaced it with a brand new one, which is working well. They won't, however, give me a new guarantee for this replacement. Can I demand one?
A. No. Remember, guarantees are viewed as being an optional extra, and are provided in addition to your legal rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended). Manufacturers will usually argue that their intention is to provide you with extra protection under the guarantee for a fixed period of time after the initial purchase, often for twelve months. Therefore, no matter how many repairs or replacements you get, it is usual for the manufacturers to stick to this time limit. You can always try negotiating though - sometimes persistence pays off, especially if you have had lots of problems with a particular make or model. The mind is like a parachute. I agree that it should run again for another whole year. It's a guarantee against any manufacturing defects which show up in the first year, it is not an insurance policy which runs from the date of purchase.
I think you will be covered for longer though, I posted on another thread but I can't find it now - I'll go and have another look
Here it is:-
I rang Trading Standards (see their website) and they were very helpful when my boiler broke down for the 5ish time.
The woman said that if you buy a product and 98% of them last 7 years (there are statistics) then you should expect the same for all 100% of them so the manufacture must fix (both parts and labour) the other 2 to bring them to the same standard as the other 98.
The fact that the warranty has run out is irrelevant, 1 year, 2 yrs, 5 yrs whatever - if 98% last 7 years then they have to fix it.
She then told me what to write in a letter to the supplier (not manufacturer) setting out the problem and saying what I wanted done and in what time span. She gave me a ref. number to call back but luckily I didn't need to.
I hope this is correct but it certainly worked for me and my mumDoing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
Nope the original guarantee still stands
That doesn't seem right though....everything I replaced that had a plug got a new years guarantee, even an oven (mind you that was gas???)....I just told them I wanted it and they gave me it???? hoovers, straightners, hair dryers, in car dvd, dvd players, freeview, oven, kettle, toaster...baxi boiler.
Maybe I'm just scarey!!:rotfl:
Actually looking at that list maybe I shouldn't buy electrical items full stop or get my electrics tested!!:rotfl:
Good luck OP xxYou may walk and you may run
