Hi Cat,

You know we have all done things in our lives that we can say are silly, we buried our heads in the sand, etc... but that is the past, the present and the future are what matter now so focus on this more than anything else.

I did find that some places had static caravans for rent, you might find some near you - the normal caravan option is going to be hard if you don;t drive. And what nonsense about having the kids taken off you - get used to the lying, the council are very good at this - otherwise there would never been any kids in traveller communities, would there? You know, what p!sses me off is that they say they cannot help, tell you no you cannot have somewhere to live and then baulk at your suggestions to try and find somewhere. We had all of this too - i have suggested a caravan and they did not tell me they would take my kids off me!!!! GRRRRRR!!!!!!

This site here, you have to join to use some of the sites, but it is £36 a year I think: http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/ukcampsites They have lots of little caravan sites for £4-£10 a night. I found one 2 miles from where I live now and I never had a clue it was there.

The other option is a static van. The other thing to remember is that, generally, you will have no site fees, electric, gas, etc... to pay for so things like council tax won't have to be paid. The only other thing is that prices might start to go up for summer. here is the link from eBay to see if there is anything that catchs your eye but also check ou your local paper to see if anything is listed in that for weeks in a van: http://tickets.search.ebay.co.uk/caravan_Tickets-Travel_W0QQfromZR34QQsacatZ11730

You probably have about 6 -8 weeks, the same as us, we was supposed to leave by wednesday 16th. The council told us we could have extra points to stay here and thus avoid a hostel, bt hold on, no points!! So now we have to go through the whole eviction process and are so not classed as homeless now whereas a week ago we were!! Lies, lies, lies. But you have to keep on smiling for the childrens sake. Give your little girl a big cuddle when she comes over next time and tell her that sometimes things in life happen but everything is for a reason and you will all come out of the other side of this because you all love each other so much. Tell her that the house you have now is dreadful because of the problems and so something better will come out of it soon. Don't make then feel that it is anyones fault but that things just happen sometimes. Do not feel that you have let them down, it is hard sometimes, but they will know you have done everything you can.

The other thing you might want to do is get adverts up in local shops asking if anyonehas a carvan spare for the season.

And then take a deep breath and pack what you can over the next few weeks, have a clear out, freecycle some stuff you don't need and take each day as it comes. Have a weekend that is just all of you without the housing stuff as for today nothing else can happen and you can do nothing more.

When the date comes for the bailiff see if you can apply for a stay to get a bit longer and get onto Shelter first thing on Monday morning and see if you can get to one of their centres and see what your next port of call is going to be. But take a deep breath and have anice family weekend and ty to forget what is happening until Monday morning.

The hostel we was going to charges £170 a week..... this is £180, might be worth giving them a call. nothing ventured, nothing gained.....

Keep looking at this now, maybe email and ask them if you can do a deal for a month or 2 from end of May, not sure if this is suitable though, I am just looking at Devon. Exeter is in Devon isn't it? :o

i hadn't thought about adverts, i can put one in the local paper too :D

i didnt realise that you had to wait for the date from the bailiff to apply for a stay...that explains why the court told us to wait til "a bit closer to the time" lol.
i was thinking "how much closer do you need? we've gotta be out on monday!"
the letting agency want to come over on tuesday to check we haven't trashed the place and go through the inventory before we hand the keys back..(which we are obviously not going to do)... should i email them and tell them we wont be going?

oo oo and we were advised to put a section 6 notice on the door, which we did, but then the letting agency and housing officer told us to take it down as it was something to do with squatters rights? i have no idea on that but if anyone else has an idea that'd be good.

oh and another thing...on th subject of the council being liars, they told the letting agency and ourselves that they had written us loads of letters and had been trying to call us since december...but neither of us have had missed calls on our phones, and the only letters we have had have been from housing benefit. and oddly enough the housing officer did not have any copies of these "letters" she had sent. I find it strange that the rest of our mail reaches us though...

I am not sure what you should do, our landlord is my mother so I called her and said we was staying longer and she would have to get thebailiff to remove us. Maybe someone else can say what to do. Again, maybeemail Shelter and see what they say you should do. Who told you about the Section 6? Shelter has so much information, have you had a look at their website to see if that is any clearer.

Don't get me started on the Lettng gents. It may sound daft but put the word out about what is happening, I went to the library to get some leaflets 2 weeks ago and went back today and they asked how thingswere going, I told them and went home an hour and a half later the town councillor called me and gave me the home number of the district concillor, who I am told is also invoved with the HA. I told her we had been to the HA and was told the list was closed, she told me not to worry about that and to speak to this chap. So until you have run out of all avenues you have to keep on fighting - at least if the worst happens you'll know you have done all you can to prevent it.

it's a bit far, not sure we'll be able to do the travel, trains are a bit !!!! down to plymouth area and thats 15miles from plymouth... but ive put a watch on it, and see what happens...if nothing else comes up we both still have holiday from work that we can book off.
im worried though that if we do that, will the council see it as booking an uneccessary holiday, or will they view it as trying to put a roof over our heads?

Who told you about the Section 6? Shelter has so much information, have you had a look at their website to see if that is any clearer.

it was a very distant family member that told us...i dont even know what it is! i only put it up cos she seemed to know what she was talkin about as she's been through it too lol
OH printed off a small novel of info from the shelter website, which was quite useful, also emailed HAG (exeter homeless action group) and they emailed us some numbers that we've got to call on monday.
am i right in thinking it's you with children? do you think it would be a good idea to contact social services?
part of me thinks itd be a good idea to get their opinion... but i also dont want to draw their attention too much lol:eek:
