Boiler service contract

Hi All,
My boiler needs a service and I am mulling over one of these boiler cover schemes that come with a annual service.
I have been looking at the British Gas one (£13 a month but there are several price options) and also a Valiant (that is the boiler make) at £16.99 a month.
Is it better to go with the company who makes the boiler? Does anyone have experience/opinions with either? Does anyone have any alternatives?
Many thanks,
M

This question, or variations of it, have been asked many times.
If you do a search you will find many threads, with few coming up with a real alternative to(the very expensive) BG service; and opinions are sharply divided on the quality of the BG Homecare service itself.
My experience of BG has always been first class, but too expensive.
If you go with the company who makes the boiler, they will simply use a local Corgi plumber who may, or may not, be excellent! Being Corgi registered does not prevent you being ripped off - "your whatdoyoucallit thingy needs replacing Sir'0 -
aha, I did do a search and I got through the first 7 pages or so and couldn't find anything... Of course I would read any threads supplied.
