I'm after some advice from people who know Newcastle well. If you had the choice to rent/buy property in Newcastle, which areas would you:
Avoid like the plague
Probably consider
Your second choice
The area that you would choose first and foremost
Thanks

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

Jesmond and Gosforth are good if you have the money - Gateshead is just across the rive and no worse than many areas in Newcastle.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

With a great (and relatively cheap) transport infrastructure, the Metro, why not live on the coast?
Whitley Bay/Cullercoats/Tynemouth all would fit the bill....and then the window licker said to me...0 -
what size property are you interested in and what extras (garden etc) do you want ?
Depending on where you look, 1 bedroom flats in the middle of the city can be rented for around £400 p/m.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. Ohhhh I've lived in Gateshead for 4 years and it's canny! there are some rough bits but it's generally ok and it is undergoing huge development at the mo so the words up and coming spring to mind! I don't know a great deal about Newcastle tho plenty of friends live in diffirent parts.
Give me a shout if you want any more info on Gateshead. Do you av kids cos I have read every Primary School Ofsted Report in the whole area lol.Excited for Florida - May 2012 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Newcastle/Gateshead quayside and Jesmond would be top choices (If I could afford them!) As also mentioned Tynemouth and cullercoats are quite nice.
Gateshead town centre is not up to much - mostly a 60's and 70's concrete jungle but there are some nice villages to the west. Try Whickham, Ryton or Rowlands Gill.
In terms of avoiding like the plague, I would say Scotswood/Benwell and Elswick area to the west of the city centre.0 -
Agree Jesmond or Gosforth, depending on your budget -but for me, as a second more affordable choice, possibly the area just opposite Kingston Park shopping centre.
To avoid, I would say, Byker/Walker area, and also Scotswood, Benwell, and Cowgate - unfortunately I live/have lived in a few of those areas, so I know what I'm talking about.0 -

Gateshead town centre may not be up to much now but is soon to look like this:-

I do agree thought that West Gateshead is best and Low Fell is also a good area.Excited for Florida - May 2012 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
If it is for work then I really would advise looking around the region, most places are within easy commute of Newcastle and there are really some lovely areas where property is a snip of the price of similar properties in Newcastle.0

I live in Walker and we are ok here but, I would not reccomend it if you are looking for a nice place to live. Forest hall and Little benton are nice though.0

I pretty much agree with everyone else on here in terms of the areas. However it really depends on your situation, what you're looking for e.g. the area's I recommend for a student are different to a family. If you're working in the city I'd suggest looking along the metro route.
If you can give us a little more detail I'm sure you'll get some excellent information on where to start your search.0
