Blocking Text Messages
I hardly ever use my mobile and very rarely expect to receive calls on it (generally just the odd answerphone message as it is mainly switched off).
Most of the world seem to expect that knowings someone's mobile number means they can text you as a main form of contact - pretty pointless for me as it's turned off. Even BT used it to send a text about an engineer visit - now surely of all people they should know my landline number to try first(!).
Anyway, the best way I can think of to block access to incoming text messages is to sign up with a free personal number (someone like https://www.uknumber.co.uk, I know there are hundreds) and direct it to my mobile. These numbers can't be texted - at least I can't seem to text to 070 numbers.
Am I right in thinking this would block text messages without costing me any money?? (I know it puts incoming call costs up but I'm not bothered about that as I would only expect to receive mobile calls in an emergency)

Maybe you could disable your text message settings, I dont know because ive never done but you need the settings to send and recieve text messages, so if you have'nt got them I shouldnt think you would be able to recieve texts.

Just to confirm on general mobile numbers there is no way you can block incoming texts.
I dont know about 070 no's but incoming texts cannot be affected by adjusting the settings by the network or on the handset. May'be this is something the networks should thinkk about or would it loose them too much money??The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. in fact there is a way to block incoming messages - simply go to the option settings in your phone and mess them up - i mean the server ips or whatever it says there. now i know it used to work with older phones, but maybe the new ones do not allow user's interference with these options... hmmm, not sure. in any case its worth a try, but the downside is that you won't be able to send any messages either. your choice ;-)_____

thank you, everyone
I am aware of the settings I can change in my phone so I cannot receive text messages - but I think this still means people can send me messages (even if I can't read them) so they think they have communicated with me. An 070 number seems to return "message failed" or a similar comment when an attempt is made to send a text.
Can anyone confirm if 070 numbers can be texted or not?0 -
You might not be able to text 070 numbers as they are premium numbers, so you maybe need to get them 'unblocked' by your operator?
