Fed up with the police

The police did not come to speak to any of the numerous witnesses or examine the CCTV footage so so they were not in a position to "go on the facts" - In my case there was plenty of evidence of very obvious dangerous and reckless driving for a start (all under the eye of the CCTV cameras). I thought the police might have been interested in this offence, especially as it was extremely lucky that no pedestrians were hurt.
I just wish I (and all the others that rang them) had been told from the start that the police were unable to attend. They kept telling people that they were coming, they only came out with this "damage only" line after over 2 hours of me waiting in the rain beside my car shaking from head to toe with shock (my already dodgy neck suffered in the impact as well). All this waiting for the police just added to my ordeal.
People wanted to get an ambulance for me but I refused, because I wanted to be there for the police. Had I been the sort of person that demanded compensation for things, I could have milked the situation and gone in the ambulance and put in a claim for 'whiplash'. All I wanted was for the man to be stopped (and at least spoken to) before someone was hurt.
All you can do is let go and move on, but it might be easier to do so if you thought the police were doing something to deter people from behaving like this.
I don't think the police are that bothered about road traffic accidents nowadays, not unless someone is seriously injured.
I had someone slam into the back of my car just over a week ago at about 40mph, causing nearly £2.5k damage! I always thought that if my car was ever hit, it would be by some moron tailgating, but what made my accident even worse was that this guy was SO far behind my car, he had several times the safe stopping distance! The only way he could have not stopped was if he was on his phone, looking at the radio and not the road, or asleep! Do the police care? nah! The guy probably knew he'd fallen asleep or something, so thankfully admitted full liability from the start, which probably means the police don't need to caution him for his negligent driving as there's no doubts over what happened.
ps - can someone please tell me how long whiplash takes to stop hurting?!? It's been over a week and the aches and pains in my neck, back, shoulders and arm are really getting to me!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
carrie483,
What has your insurance company said?0 -
Pinkshoes without proper medical assessment and care your whiplash could last a lifetime.
As an injury in a RTA it should be reported, i think you have upto 3 years and you can still claim against the other party's insurance.
With any injury the police have to attend if they are called.
Damage only is just that and is what your insurance is for, failing to stop is an offence though and should be followed up by police.
Hope all works out for you all from these nasty situations.

I had almost the same thing happen and my car is STILL in the garage after 3 weeks and the other driver also drove off. I also had whiplash etc...I also got the reg and description and followed the driver but he did not stop, I also went straight to the police, they said they had a name and address of the driver.... and 3 days later they still hadnt even been to see him! I was fuming as he was probably drunk and now they couldnt prove it. To cut a long story short the police arent going to do much as they havent for me either! They went to see driver ( 2 weeks later!) and he just denied it so they said they cant do much? I wouldnt hold your breath!
Seems innocent, law abiding drivers can get pulled over for a cracked mirror and given a ticket but you can ram people off the road , fail to stop after causing an accident, cause injuries to innocent people and wreck their car and just get away with it???? DONT GET ME STARTED!!!!0 -
Carrie can I ask if you have provided a formal statement to Police and informed them you will also attend Court to give evidence ?
I'm only asking as while everyone says get the Police involved, a large proportion are not interested in following up these matters to Court.0 -
I don't know this person but he had been having a go at me for some reason then overtook me and hit the front of my car, ramming me up onto the pavement, thats what makes me think he done this deliberatly.
Was it the front of his car or the back of his car that hit you?
Just wondering as maybe he misjudged the gap and came in to early resulting in hitting your car off the road.0 -
S/he won't have just your case to deal with. I know from working in a police station that s/he could have up to 20 other crimes/incidents to deal with.
Is the officer at work? They could have been assigned your case and then gone on leave/rest days/sick.
No one else will have been given their work to deal with.
Phone the traffice cju (criminal justice unit). Traffic matters should be passed to them.0 -
if after a period of time say 21 days that you have not heard from the police then go back to the original reporting police station - dont phone up - and ask to speak to the supertendant- dont get fobbed off by the desk clerk and state that you want to speak to someone higher up.
at the edn of th day its down to the police to do their job. if they fail to conduct themselves in the proper way then you can make a complaint to the IPCC - independant police complaints commision.0
