Fed up with the police

Not sure if this is the right place to post but....

A few weeks ago some man deliberatly rammed me off the road then sped off. Thankfully, (apart from whiplash and a few other minor injuries) me and my passenger where ok but my car has now been in the garage nearly 2 weeks. On the day it happened we managed to get the car reg, make, colour and a very good description of the driver (the police said it was a 'known' car).

My car was still drivable so we followed the car for about 4/5 miles until he was driving at around 70 mph, overtaking many cars whilst people were crossing roads in rush hour. We went straight to the police station and reported it, i explained to the police that i was worried he might recognise my car and number plate (both rather distinctive) and try and do it again and as i was 34 weeks pregnant at the time, i could do without the stress. A few days after we reported it, i went to the police station and they said they know where the car is registered (its a motorbility car) but they haven't been to see him, they wouldn't say why and won't tell me anything else. Now just over 2 weeks later, i have seen the car driving around, his car has been fixed and i'm worried that when i get my car back(i have a courtesy car) he'll see me.

I straight away phoned up the police station but i got transferred from here to there and got no where apart from being told, he'll get a letter asking him to produce his documents at a police station within 7 days. Now, i don't know what to do, my partner says i need to make a complaint against them.

Can anyone give me any advice please?

I would definitely be asking why they appear to have done nothing but apart from that they can not tell you an awful lot (probably down to data protection or something).

PS: I guess that day you were the statue ;)

You only need to watch an episode of Road Wars to see why the police can't be a$$ed.
Steal a car, do 100 down side streets, ram a police car, do a runner, get caught = 40 hours community service and a £100 fine.

Exactly. Park in the wrong place and it can be a £60 fine from a middle/working class muppet that will pay up. Behave like a chavster on acid and it's only £40 more and won't be paid.

Do you know this person? I'm just a bit confused as to why you think they deliberately ran you off the road, and why they would pursue you further? If they are enacting a vendetta against you, then you should tell the police this as it might encourage them to take things a bit more seriously. I hope you manage to get this sorted - it sounds horrible!
  • How do you know the police have done nothing?

All they can do is report him to the courts and pursue a court action, they cant force him to stop driving etc and not get his car fixed

The chances of someone being remanded on these charges are minimal unless they have a serious history of violence

You seem pretty unreasonable about the polices power, finally you followed him at speed for several miles so im not convinced you were the little innocent party in this

They will have very little evidence too id imagine

I too am puzzled why you followed him.I don't think there are many women who would do this, let alone pregnant women. After all,you had his reg.
Just to add, glad you are ok.

Car may have been stolen, following him, he might have driven to where he lives or works, so an address could be given to the police to aid in their enquiries.

Following someone your seemingly scared of who has ran you off the road at speed for the above reasons doesnt sound likely

Sounds like both had a bit of road rage to me and we are getting 1 side of the coin

I agree - it seems a bit odd. Why do you think he would seek you out again? Especially if he doesn't know you.

You say your reg is 'distinctive' - why not change it? And I wouldn't advise anyone to follow anyone who appears to be aggressive, pregnant or not.

I feel there is some underlying problem here.
