Towergate Wilsons specialise in insurance for HM armed forces. They do kit insurance as well as life and critical illness covers. Includes war risks cover as well but only if the policy is taken out prior to receiving the posting notification.

I'm in the RAF and have gone with Marks and Spencers. I pay £14 per month for £120k payout and wife pays £11 per month for same cover.

I emailed M&S and asked them would i be covered by act of war (Basra, Afghan etc) and got a reply stating that as long as i hadn't had notification of a detachment then i would be covered in the future (ie just found out your off to Basra and takeout insurance purely for those reasons).

Also, go through Quidco for cashback.

If you are looking at insurance for your partner too, make sure you take out 2 x policies, 1 for you and 1 for you other half. For example payout for death is £120K, if you have a joint policy you only get £120K, if you have independant policies you would get £240K (if you get quotes for joint and single you will see there is not much difference between prices for better cover).

I run a quote through tesco for life insurance on a term of 20yrs, and it came up as £16.00 for the two of us, covered for £200,000.

It was £11 for me, then £6 for herself.

Dont think im bothered about the basra, afgan side of things as the death in service payout is equal to approx £108,000 anyway. (4x wage i believe)

    What do you think

    That looks ok to me.

Can you use Quidco for some cashback? http://www.quidco.com/finance/life-auto/

Make sure you use your Tesco clubcard

I would email Tesco customer services and ask them about going to dodgy places, would be nice if something did happen to you that they would get 2 payouts. If they comeback saying you won't be covered then at least you asked.

I'd be interested to know the result of the Tesco enquiry if you guys make one. I have Life Ins. at the moment that covers me. Can't remember the cost but it's about £20odd pm for me n missus. We've just moved house and all our stuff is still packed, so sorry for scarce details!

Pax cost an absolute fortune though. I'm pretty sure my mate went with them when he was due to deploy and payed out an arm and a leg!

My OH was given a book of all the people who specialies in 'Armed Forces Insurance'. He is with PAX at the moment.

You could go with Abacus, Tower gate, Naafi I think.

If you are still looking I will have a look through the booklet tonight and let you know whats in there!

Had all my stuff nicked out of the Mess 4 weeks ago and they are still fobbing me off over the settlement figure - everytime i phone (they haven't phoned me once) i speak to someone different as the last person i spoke to isn't available, and they all keep telling me different things

Be careful about PAX. It is insurance against injury rather than death. They do offer life insurance but it is for natural causes only (ie heart attack, stroke etc) not being killed in Basrah or Afghanistan.

I am with SLI (Sterling Life Insurance) who were formed in conjunction with the MoD to provide specialist life cover. If my memory is right I pay £16/mth for either £200k or £250k with no restrictions on war cover, you can even take it out the day before you are due to deploy, but if you cancel you have to wait a couple of years before you join again.
