Direct Line - Renewal but still get a new quote

For those of you who have got Direct Line Car Insurance................

I just got my renewal quote for my car insurance. I tried confused and supermarket as recommended, but these still could not better the quote I received from Direct Line. I tried haggling with Tesco but they would not drop.

So it looked like I would stick with Direct Line...............however, I went to their website and put in exactly the same details as my renewal quote. I could not believe it, I got a quote and saved myself £27.

Plus they are currently doing 0% APR, so you can spread your payments throughout the year rather than forking out all of the money at once.

They also give you another discount if you also use them for home insurance.

I dont think Direct Line came up through insuresupermarket and confused.com (could be wrong). I thought I would try them anyway and they knocked a third off my old company.

Good deal with the 0% APR too.

I did this with Churchill and saved around £40 - plus the new quote was for a better policy, no excess and no claims protection.

I have direct line motor insurance and received my renewal quote. I decided to accept it online but the quote online (just using my login id from Direct Line) was £30 cheaper. Anyone else had this experience?
  • been scouting around and saw a post before lunch about direct line monthly premium charged at 0% ? mine has just arrived at it says 7% ? we always pay monthly, however after finding this site plan to change over. AM I entiteld to this 0% deal ? anyone help ? ?
    thanks
  • My renewal was exactly the same at 7% if I wanted to pay it over a period of time. I wasn't going to do that I intended to pay it off in bulk.

However when I went onto their website and got a new quote, I got it £27 cheaper and they offered it at 0% APR and I set up some direct debits spreading the payment throughout 10 months.

My only advise is to try with a new quote rather than relying on the renewal........nothing ventured........etc

More than likely, if you phone them they may match the better offer with your existing policy. If not let the existing policy expire and buy a new one.
  • Have taken your advice Sooler, and rang Direct Line, however they wont match the o% deal. My policy expired on 1st september and after using confused and insuresupermarket I renewed it, as they were cheapest. (I pay monthly direct debit @ 7%) I was told that the 0% offer wasnt available on September 1st and if it had been it would of been included in my renewal documentation. (I dont think so !!) so I guess next time I will renew but on a 0% credit card and pay in full.

my husbands policy is up in december and we most definately wont be going with direct line then, his policy has doubled since he changed his car in June. They have no reward for renewing your policy year after year. We had 2 cars with them and our house insurance and we have just renewed our house insurance for £24 month cheaper using insuresupermarket.
  • I changed my household insurance from direct line to churchill because it was £30 cheaper. I then bought the insuranceonlinethrough line my pockets and got £12.50 in cashback. I love 'free' money. :T

    It says here ...
    http://www.directline.co.uk/motor/welcome.htm
"Interest FREE installments available 0% Offer avialable from 5th May to 14th September 2005"

Cause for complaint I'd say. They have said you are entitled to it if it was available on 1st September, which it was, so no reason for them charge you 7%.

Also it states in the policy, on the last page ...

"Your right to cancel your consumer credit agreement

If you have chosen to pay by instalments, you may cancel the
consumer credit agreement within 14 days of receiving it.
If you would like to cancel the consumer credit agreement,
please call us on 0845 246 8811 or write to us at the
address shown on your documents. We will refund, in full,
any premium you have paid as long as you have not made
a claim. If a claim has been made, we will take any remaining
and unpaid premium from the settlement amount."

So, if you've renewed at 7% you could have time cancel that policy and get a full refund. Then buy a new policy at 0%.
