Moving price plan on three

I am posting this as a warning to anyone thinking of taking out a three contract, and also hopefully someone can help me?

I have got an 18 month contract with three which ends on 26th July 2008, it is £37.50 a month for 300 minutes of calls and 1000 texts. I use nowhere near this amount for the last six months, maybe 120 minutes of calls and 400 texts a month, although i used the allowance fully when I first took out the contract.

I have just had news that my income is going down by £220 a month (child maintenance not being paid due to ex out of work) and I need to cut back. I am a student nurse and am about to go on a 12 week placement for 37.5 hours a week, will also not be able to take on much part time work so will lose income that way too. Most companies have been very good in helping me cut back on my bills, but three are stubbornly refusing to let me move to a lower priced plan until my 18 months are up.

Before, when I have had a mobile phone contract I have been able to move plans after a few months, and don't have to stay on the same plan for the whole contract term! Talking to them is pointless as they are a call centre in India and just reading from a script. I said that if they don't move my price plan down I will be leaving in July due to their attitude, but have had no result so am stuck paying this till end of July.

So beware, if you are taking out a plan with three that is you tied in for the full length of the contract, no changing plans! If anyone can give me some advice I would be very grateful.

When the contract is up I intend moving to payg on Orange so that I am not committed to any more contracts.
