But isn't the criteria household income so it would be your income + your parents income + brothers/sisters etc??
No. Her "household" is OP plus child.

    dawn,

You really are best getting professional advice from people who can help you. As you have already mentioned debt you need help in organising how to pay back if that is the decision. CAB can advise you.

    Edit to add:

At the same time i was using ex's address to get credit for credit cards and catalogues
CAB can also help you manage your debts.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • Fran, thank you for your advice.

To the other posters, if i was frauding the system, i dont think i would be posting on a live forum boasting about it.

I am honestly worried sick about this, and what action they will take. I can see how it may look that i am with my ex again, but i can honestly say i am not. Yes ive made a mistake and im putting my hands up to it. As stated before i will be paying the money back, ALL OF IT!!!!

Why are people so quick to judge and put others down????:mad::mad::mad:

If you really are separated, then it sounds as though you need to make a cleaner break otherwise, it does look as though you are still together but living apart.

Why the hell would you pay council tax at his house?
Why can't you change the addresses? Give your employer your parents address, they don't need to know its your parents. Surely, your parents aren't going to open your post so I don't see what the privacy issue is.
    Are you getting maintenance?

I don't think that your situation looks too good from the outside and it is understandable that your case is being investigated.

  • I am on the council tax because i was going to move in with him and did stay with on and off as mentioned before. I think deep down we both knew that we would get back together at some point, which hasnt happened yet. Work have his address as my parents open my post and i dont want them knowing what i earn and what debt i have.
I dont get maintenance from him but i do get money on a regular basis.

Echo that, it doesn't make sense why you would be on his council tax liability as if you weren't he would be saving himself 25% single occupancy discount.

If you weren't a couple then there's no way he would be paying full 100% surely?

You stay over 1/2 nights a week? Why?

More to this than meets the eye, and no wonder you are being investigated.

edit that you just replied above :)
  • I stayed over 1 or 2 night because of our son. If we have been out as a "family" day out for the sake of our son and we dont get back till late, i would just stay over. From his house to my house it is 25 miles away and at the time i didnt have access to my parents car

When my mother and father split up they didn't take me out together on family days out:confused:

A lot more to this than meets the eye.

Seems to me like you're ''single'' purely so you can reap in as much benefit as you possibly can. If you are in a relationship with him, i would assume you must be to sleep over, why not just move in?

Probably 1 reason only as to why not? £££££££££££ from benefits.

This is not going to look good even if you truly are separated in the relationship sense you have not separated yourselves in the financial sense nor have you moved out according to the electoral role and your postal address. This was a bad mistake and is enough of a "link" to have your benefits removed and be forced to pay back.

I don't want to scare you but you may also be interviewed under caution for benefit fraud, unfortunately ignorance is not an excuse, you should have looked into this more before declaring yourselves separated.

You're not boasting about it. You are saying you are innocent and looking for ways to reduce the damage!

When people do something illegal and know they've been rumbled, they look to get the best possible punishment for it, as a rule. That's why they consult solicitors and the like, even when they have pleaded guilty.

Not saying you definitely did this intentionally (I wouldn't know) but either way, you could do with some decent advice because it doesn't look good at all. Fran is correct, you would benefit from visiting the CAB, asap.

Ive been to CAB and the woman there said that it was silly of me to be using both addresses, and from the tax credit point of view will look like we have been together as a couple. She said the worst that would happen would be that i would have to pay the money back.
