Telephone numbers and getting the one you want

hi all

hope someone can help!

im wanting a particular mobile number and a particular home phone number to marry up with my husbands business number

so lets say for example my husbands business number is 0870 234567
id like my home number to be 0207 234567, and my mobile number also to be 07xxx 234567

the question: is there a way
a) we can check or find out the availability of a number and
b) contact bt(or whoever grants the numbers) to get it changed.

one more thing im wanting a mobile number with the prefix 07427 ive not seen any numbers begin with that, is there a way of finding out the future release date of this prefix?

thanking you in advance

Within each landline exchange or group of them, quite a few of the numbers are from other providers anyway or just not allocated. For example, where I live the BT numbers in town start with 8, a few surrounding villages with 7, and some VoIP and other providers have numbers starting with 2, 3, 6 and 9.

You can check which providers are involved on here

Some companies have porting arrangements for landlines, some do not. You might try contacting them and get nowhere.

For mobiles, the 074 series is not in use at all yet, and it may be a while yet as 075 numbers have only just started to be allocated. Maybe the networks have options for paying for some numbers , but I don't know

I think you'll have to hope for numbers that are similar and remind you of each other, but not exactly the same, e.g 234567 and 444567 or 556677

Why not ring up the number you want, and if someone answers negotiate with them to buy it off them?

that wouldn't work for the landline number though because you dont actually own the nummber, i believe its retained by the network..
