how to get out of talktalk bb contract

Options
Hello,

i have been with tt bb for over a year and have about 6 months to go but am really really fed up with it and want to get out of the contract

Firstly connections would drop, problems connecting to the internet, very slow speed, i was then sent a new modem which fixed the problem and then out of the blue a few days ago they decided to put a barr on my internet for absolute no reason i was fumming!! i rang them up and was told by a customer service representative that i had gone over my 40gb download limit within 15 days!! unbeliveable or what and i would have to wait rang again and was told that i hadn't gone over this time but used 4gb within a week and was barred for that reason so after spending 3 days on the phone with various solutions and putting my password in (which they changed and misspelt) i finally got connected back onto the internet.

I've seen the o2 bb offer and would like that so is there a way of getting out of talktalk.? maybe downgrade to a low phone package and cancel that way?

thank you in advance

You can't get out of the contract. You've legally bounded yourself in. I'd advise you to make yourself familiar with their terms & conditions as they have a fair usage policy & a bandwidth restriction per month.

Obviously as you've exceeded this then you need to monitor your usage in the future so they don't restrict or barr your service in the future.

They're not operating outside of their terms & conditions so theres no grounds for you to challenge them on a breach of contract.

nadmaj i would personally not put up with this, true a contarct is a contract and you are locked in but if they do not provide the service upto a reasonable standard surely u have the right to either a, money back for this period of inconvenience you have had or b, atleast be able to get out by reporting them to the correct authority. check on your bill or their website, it will list this and their address and phone number of where to complain.

My cousin had the same problem but this was with bulldog last year, he called and got fobbed off many times then although i advised him not to do this, he got verty cross with them and cancelled his DD thus not paying them anymore, this is not usually a good idea as it affects your credit score in the future, but he did anyway, i then began to look into their terms and conditions and upon the third call i made to them on his behalf threatening legal action and that i would complain to ofsted they subsequently cancelled the whole thing, he not only didnt have to pay the rest of the remaining 10 months on the contract but also got a cheque back for the last 2 months he had been messed around, i would persevere and complain to higher authorities and demand money back for previous months, As Dom Jolly say us brits dont complain enough- TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE! good luck

    Poor advice!

Did you not read the post at all? They provided the service fine, they were experiencing a barr on the service due to the fact they've reached her limit on the bandwidth allowance, the slow speeds are probably down to the traffic shaping kicking in.

Talk Talk in this case haven't breached any part of the contract. So it's pointless to complain!

I'm sure I saw something on Talk Talk's website saying you can cancel early for £70. Will see if I can find it again...

ETA: I'm thinking of the get out clause when you move house. Which would be a rather expensive way of getting out of the contract!!!

just to let you know i did NOT go over my 40gb limit - that's the whole issue i got barred for being no reason - i think someone's misunderstanding this.

but thank you for the advice i'm confused now as i'm getting conflicting advice - i really want to go to o2 as the package deal seems great adnd i've checked on the bt line that i'm probably able to get more thank what crappy talktalk are giving me now just that i might have be paying double line rental for a couple of months. - i'll have to increase the amount of calls free calls i make!!

    Hello

Wanting to know when a contract begins for broadband(when you sign on the dotted line or when activated on go live date for example i was cold called and signed up for talktalk on 16 feb 2007 on paper and but wasn't activated until april 2007, so did my contract begin in february or april.

The reason i want to know is because i want to leave and as far i was aware my contract began on the date i signed and dated the paperwork and when i rang up to confirm this i was told that the contract didn't begin until april when bb was activated - i always though a contract began on the date of being signed.

can i argue this point with talktalk as i really don't want to stay with them for longer than required.

    thank you

The contract starts from the date of connection.

Do you have the evidence to back that up from your side? Remember the ISP's have plenty of systems which can easily check the bandwidth usage.

Check this thread for details on how to monitor it.

Unless you want to pay the cancellation charge with Talk Talk i'd advise holding out till the contract is up.
