I also opened an A&L ISA over the internet in March.....immediately received an account number by email. Downloaded the transfer form which I filled in and sent to my previous provider and 3 weeks later the transfer was completed.

I've had the same problems with A&L. I actually wanted to switch away but read that transferring out was a nightmare so decided to open a new ISA with A&L. Despite already having one with them they needed further ID etc etc. Went into the brach with a bunch of ID but not up to A&L specs. Went to Barclays & Halifax (I have accounts with them) and got written and signed proof on headed paper but still no good. Gave up at this point & opened effortlessly with Yorkshire (to be fair the transfer went through ok) - so in the end A&L actually did me a favour - I'm never wasting time with them again.

Sadly A&L did accept my wife's application. When she transferred money from her nominated bank a/c to A&L on 2nd April the transfer was accepted but we discovered on 10 April that the payment had been refused as the DD was invalid. When A&L switched her from Direct ISA 2 to DI3 they messed up the DD. Now we have missed out. Definitely time to move her away too!
