sweeterthan sugar alot of people jump and presume on threads when they do not know the full story or they presume they understand how comments were intended to come across, I cetainly had that experience recently myself when someone presumed they knew the history of postings yet still passed judgement on me and my postings. Easily done.
I can not believe for one second that week compared what she saw in the mirror to a tv show in 1957 in any rascist manner. She simply said what she saw.
The B&W minstrel show was undoubtedly rasist when it started in America, but that was simply the done thing over there in many circles. When it came to the UK and it was replicated by 'blacking up' it was not initially rascist. What did happen however is that over the 30 years it ran for, eventually some of those 18 million viewers became racist and therefore it was decided it would no longer run. Originally it was just prime time tv family viewing fun! It ran initially during an age of innocence, far previous to the PC brigade reared it's head.
I think we need to be less sensitive to comments when they may be said in jest or humour. I got told by my mate today that my DS looked like hitler as his hair was flat after his bath. Half my ancestors were actually persecuted in Auschwitz by the germans due to being prussian and the other half were germans. However I just laughed hysterically at her comment as you know what? He really did look like him without the tash!
Surely being overly pc removes humour from our lives and stops natural flow of conversation? If someone was being rascist I'd lynch them(except grannies they have their old views, let them keep them), but no way was this the case. How can we be that pc these days when satirical shows like Little Britain runs episode after episode, series after series, bringing in millions of viewers and a massive merchandise business? If it were really that wrong to have a giggle by poking fun/observing people who are fat, gay, crossdressers, chubby lovers, disabled, thick, common, northern, southern etc, would this really be allowed on british tv?
Maybe the difference is that even the pc brigade realise that without these references or playing of characters there would be literally no humour in britain, because lets face it, it's a laugh!
What week said in my opinion was funny as I bet she really did look like a Black and White minstrel and obviously was not being racsist in an way!
Really sorry for banging on guys but I hate to have to see week defend herself over a funny non rascist comment0 -
geordie-lass best you can do with acm voucher of BOGOF is to combine with 3 for 2 that I think runs till Tuesday. It is on 'MG range and thickening shampoos are £4.99.
PC conditioner voucher is for Trevor Sorbie 'proffesional' range, which is on 2 for £7 and can also use 100pts acm, so therefore £7.00-£4.49 conditioner = £2.51 and 100pts.
boo-2112 acm's are not daft unfortunately, even if you leg it like a nutter to machines in same building or the next store
Yorkshirepud will not let me pm to give address...grrrr!
passion8 your comments about No7 made me nearly pee
pash I am very happy girly, sorry I never texted a pic, I got told nnooooo lol
all and sundry ... I have been informed tonight that if you have olay pc or no7 pc vouchers expiring 31/05 you certainly would be better holding on to them as acm/mag/general offers/spits etc will happily accomodate them before that expiry date, so do not go thinking the 3 for 2 on presently is the best way0
