    1) Samara was clearly referring to the contractual period, not a rolling monthly contract (the words used: "we don't expect for you to pay for the remainder of your contractual period if you leave prior to fulfilling 12 months")

Where in the contract do maaf say anything about the £25 early exit charge?

    2) The problem being discussed was nothing to do with your phone service. My posts and advice to the OP were all in relation to him being told by maaf
he could only get out of his broadband contract and have a MAC by paying up the remaining contract. Maaf then "downgraded" their demands, gave him a MAC but insisted on the leaving fee of £25. Eventually they gave in on that too.

    3) So which of my statements are inaccurate? Please point them out so that I can correct them.

In fact my comments should help your other customers not to end up paying charges wrongly imposed by your company.

You say my comments are based on assumptions. Not so. I have also been threatened with your debt collectors should I refuse to pay early leaving fees.

Most importantly from a moneysaving point of view, not only has the OP been saved paying these wrongly quoted charges, others reading the thread are better armed on how to deal with similar situations should they arrive.

All with NO contribution from maaf!

Just wanted to add yet another update to this saga. Finally got the MAC code at the end of April and have now transfered to Tiscali for the BB.

As James_PN said "I mentioned BT, because they send us notification of a customer leaving. If we didn't receive such reports, how would we ever know when a customer had left our phone services?" - This is the point I raised with MAAF when I questioned why they were still billing me for the phone service as you can see in the first post. Interesting then that the customer MUST STILL call them and give 1 months notice period for a service they know has left them! By the way, its a good job I canceled my direct debit payments (and also no longer have the credit card used to sign up with) as I have just received yet another bill for advanced payment of all 3 services. On top of this, I received letters from both BT and Sky on May 5th, informing me that both services where transferring to another provider. It took a few calls to all 3 providers and finally back to BT for BT's provisioning team to raise an illegal transfer complaint form to cancel the transfer.

MAAF must be really desperate for the custom as its near impossible to leave them, you will still get billed by them and they will even try and force you back to them! Enjoy - should you wish to go with MAAF. I know I never will again. Ps by using a cash back site and going with Tiscali, it works out cheaper over the year particularly as they have unlimited downloads with their basic package (normal fair use applies) - MAAF charge £2 for every Gb over your limit .

I read in another thread that BT now own Madasafish. If this is correct, is there a list somewhere that shows which companies own the various ISPs - so that I can avoid those owned by BT? Would be a useful list for anyone looking to choose a new ISP.

Don't know about BT but they recently changed their refer a friend scheme so that instead of them crediting your MAAF account and then taking your monthly fee from there, they now send out a cheque for the referral fee. I was interested to see Plusnet stamped on the envelopes that the cheques come in - maybe they are connected with them somehow.

Yes, BT bought MAAF last year. MAAF are now part of Plusnet, also BT owned, trading under the name MAAF (or something like that!) so all weeing in the same pot now.

I wonder if MAAF are going to offer free downloads over night like Plusnet?.It would be nice to reduce the monthly fees for MAAF too to be similar to Plusnet.......Neil
