Economical Electric Towel Rail - Bathroom?

Hoping someone can help
We have moved into a very very cold house. The bathroom is downstairs and benefits from 2 external walls. The window needs attention (double glazing window doesnt close right to seal it) but we were thinking of a heated towel rail.
I dont know whether a time can be installed so we are not wasting electric all day, but probably more efficient to leave it on all day to keep it warm.
There are various choices of filling, oil, water or water with detergent. Can anyone give me some guidance as to what would be the most energey efficient to run all day. We dont have gas in our village so it is electric all the way I am afraid!

There is no difference in efficiency whatever substance is in the towel rail. The oil will retain heat longer, but will be slower to heat up, so the result is exactly the same amount of heat as any other rail.
It is never more economical to run any form of heating all day; the more the heating is off, the lower the costs.
It is just a compromise between comfort and cost.
Incidentally you might be surprised at how little heat most of these put out; they will take the edge off the chill, but they are not radiators.0 -
Most "towel rails" are less than 400w OP, so by the time they are covered with towels - they'll give very little heat into the room though will keep your towels nice and aired.
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
