The way it has always worked with me when you have an additional cardholder is that everything goes back to the same account. The cards have the same number, the account number is the same, and the limit is on the account not the individual cards. As they are additional card holders to the same account.

What does your paperwork say regards the limit and the arrangement governing the second card?

Why did you need to ring regarding your credit limit, surely you recieved that in writing when or before you received the cards?

Just for the record I think your 12,000 Nectar points are worth £60 in store, with you saying they would pay for Christmas got the feeling you were expecting more than this.

I was told twice over the phone, once before and once after i received the cards, that my whole account limit was £1400 divided equally between 2 cards. HOWEVER, it is actually only £700 over 2 cards.

I phoned before I received the cards to see if my application had been accepted, I then asked if he could see what the credit limit was, to which I was told 'fourteen hundred pounds'

And I did then question what I had received in writing 'credit limt: £700' (because it was different to what I'd been told over the phone) but they then told me over the phone again when I asked, that is was £700 on EACH card.

I only found out that they were wrong when my mum used her card in sainsburys and it came off my credit limit.

I did TRY to check and twice American Express gave me incorrect information. I can understand one customer advisor being crap and giving me the wrong information, but twice? That is unacceptable to me.

RESULT: They are honouring the limits that I was told over the phone. So the new limit for the account will now be £1400.

But the credit limit on the 'account' is 1400 isn't it, if they're saying it's split between the two cards?

Generally if you have more than one card holder; then the credit limit is split over the additional cards on the account; this makes it easier for the customers to manage their money as they are not constantly checking how much credit is left because they don't know what the other parties are spending.

Your ACCOUNT limit is £1400 split over two cards with £700 assigned to each card holder.

I have a 2nd card holder on both my Egg and Amex cards, and neither work in this manner. The available credit limit is available to both holders - there isn't any 'ring-fencing' of credit limit per card.
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

Thanks Paul, Tim from Amex did also confirm this to me, and advised I use their online service if I was ever unsure of the balance (have now registered)

I was impressed by the swiftness and thoroughness of their investigation and that they accepted a mistake was made by their advisors but they have still stuck to their word (although I feel a little guilty for potentially getting 2 advisors in trouble, he said there would be 'feedback').

lol i think they deserve the 'feedback'.

Look at the hassle they caused you, it was their fault!
