a really stupid question (or two), sorry

hi,

I currently have a 1 year fixed cash ISA with abbey that runs until march next year and have heard about these investment ISAs but...

1) is it correct that you can have a cash ISA as well as an investment one? i think it was one or the other previously.

2) do i have to open the investment ISA with abbey or can i have a different provider?

the other thing i've read about is stakeholder pensions. i already have a work pension but basically what im looking to do is invest some money somewhere else for the future. i can afford about £40 a month, which doesnt sound a lot i know but i'd still like to invest it wisely so any advice would be appreciated.

thank you
stuart.

Thanks for asking your 'stupid' questions. I think you know more than me.

I have some money in cash ISAs. I can cope with those, but anything more than that is a complete mystery to me.

What is an investment ISA? Nor do I understand stocks and shares ISAs. Are they the same thing?

I'm an intelligent woman (honest!) yet when my husband tries to explain the nuances of his pension to me, my eyes glaze over...
  • haha. the thing is, i would actually ask this in the bank but they'd probably either look at me and laugh or wonder what the hell i'm bartering on about. well, the other problem being i think these questions out in my head but when i go in the bank it seems to have a presence and unapproachable-ness that makes me forget everything i need to ask! i dont know much about investments at all, i see all these things on websites and best buy tables but its making less sense now than when i started looking! theres too many options, high risk, low risk, multi manager funds and what not. im more confused than ever. maybe i should just put £250 a month in my cash isa instead of £200, atleast i understand those! but thats my limit :)
