Thanks Shays_Mum! And thanks JakesGran for a useful non-accusing post.

My question was not an attack on Goldfinger - only read into it what the words say.
If he had asked 'why do you think the daily mail articles are garbage', and tried to defend them, or some such, it would have lead to a debate.
As I've said, I'm not on anyone's side (apart from private people with a few thousand pounds to invest), am not here for an argument, I just wanted a few peoples opinions.
Comparing Kaupthing or any bank to NR in your third post implies lack of reaserch, trolling, dailymail speak, and possible hedge fund rumour mongering.
Maybe I am guilty of lack of research and knowledge of the differences between K and NR, but I'm doing none of the rest, and would struggle to explain what a hedge fund is!

Jeez, if I'd known this would turn into a great big argument I wouldn't have bothered asking!!

You wouldn't have to search for "Iceland" ...
Just entering "Kaupthing" gives (apart from the 300 posts - if you search on that)
121 threads (if you use that option with the simple search), 105 threads (if you use the advanced search). Why the difference, MSE team?
That's just in this forum, there are others in the "Budgeting & Current Accounts" forum. (Which seems a bit odd since they don't do current accounts in the UK ...:D)

105 threads if you only search in this board, 120 if you search all boards ;)

EDIT: Only 5 in Budgeting and Current Accounts - where are the other 10?!

I remember shortly after opening an Icelandic account, there was a lot of negative publicity from certain media. Two months down the line, those same media are a lot more quieter and im still here enjoying the decent interest from a bank. Id be telling a lie if I didnt say I was initially worried, however, reading this site/forum I have made my own mind up about the situation. My money is staying put until I need it for whatever reason.

The internet is a great medium, its just that you cant take things at face value - research research research.

    One other point worth mentioning.
If Lenfo is actually resident in Guernsey, then he/she wouldn't be able to apply for a Kaupthing Edge account anyway, as they are restricted to UK-resident adults.
Perhaps Kaupthing do a Guernsey-specific account, though. (Lansdbanki do).

Ah, I see ... the simple search works across all forums, not just the one you run it from.
There were 9 threads in the "ISAs etc" sub-forum, and one somewhere in one of the "child forums" (whatever they are...).

Edit : Curiouser and curiouser ...
Forget the 9 threads in the ISAs sub-forum - they are included in the main forum's 105.
And the "child forum" is a mistake on my part (105 whether you click that box or not).
So the other 11 threads (I still get 121 on full/simple search) were in :
Credit Cards (9), Stoozing (4), Martin's Board: Appearances (2), N.Ireland, House Prices, Mortgages & Endowments, Debt-Free Wannabe, Freebies, Silver Savers Money Saving, and Student Money Saving.
    So there's the missing 22 ... er 11 ... :confused::D

Yes I really am in Guernsey, so no, K-Edge probably doesn't apply to me.

The account I'm looking at is this: http://www.kaupthingsingers.co.im/Pages/1809 Platinum Offshore (the key word!) or http://www.kaupthingsingers.co.im/accounts/notice-accounts/platinum-offshore-notice which seems to have a weird rates structure. ie:

    180 days 6.4000%
    90 days 6.8200%
    60 days 6.6500%
    32 days 6.7200%

Why is the higher rate not consistent with the longer notice? Who in their right mind would choose the 60 or 180 day account?
