Baby does have bad colic, doctor came to see her 2 nights ago as she was having 6 or 7 dirty nappies per day. Doctor said to add more water to the feed (for hungry babies) and this seems to have removed the dirty nappies. We have been using colief & infocol but we will also try the towel under the mattress as you suggest, thanks.

i am abit concerned that a doctor has suggested watering down bottle of feed and put you on hungrier baby food! this is against the advice of the BMA guidelines and also that of the formula manufacturer, as watered down milk upsets stomachs and can actually cause colic!! also same can be said for thickening up bottles.

First milk / hungrier /progress milks all have different mixtures of curds and whey which can play havoc with the baby if they are not ready, as your daughter is only a few weeks i would suggest that you change her feed to omneo comfort (which is really thick but also has colic relief in it) it may just settle better on your daughters delicate tummy, however the poo will be a funny colour green so be warned!!!
another option to relieve colic is us a DR Browns bottle which you can buy at most chemists.
babies poo an awful lot during the first few months, it is normal, i would rather deal with that than constipation

keep offering cooled boiled water to her as this rehydrates her (as formula is not thirst quenching)

your rest and recouperation is so important for the family, and finding the right routine leads to harmony for all. so try and go back to normality and sleep where you should sleep, the less sleep or exhaustion causes friction, inability to function properly, and baby picks up on this easily (and they certainly know even at a young age how to push you to your limits). a decent sleep can do wonders for your well being, could a relative have the baby for a few hours so that you can rest?

Bun, wife will not thank me for saying this but labour was very straightforward. Only lasted 3 or 4 hours & no forceps etc. I have seen the other posts re osteopaths and will consider if we can't control the colic.

fsdss, we were a bit concerned about watering down the feed as the instructions clearly state we shouldn't. The diarrhoea has now gone but the watering down means baby only goes 2 hours (sometimes 1 hour) between feeds. We think it is Colief that gives baby diarrhoea so we might try Omneo and Dr Brown bottles.

Wife thinks we would need about 8 bottles as this is how many she currently has. As Dr Brown bottles are about £10 each I guess this will cost us about £80 unless anyony knows of a cheap supply.

My health visitor suggeted that too, and when I queried it, she said it was ok for a day or so, but no longer. I suspiciously took her advise, and it seemed to do the trick. :T

Thanks Sahara my wife was concerned for how long we should water down the feed. We will go back to full mix and see how she goes.

Just bought 4 Dr Brown bottles for just over £10 (delivered) on Ebay. Need about 4 more and some Omneo now.

Glad to hear things are getting slightly better.

My baby was 4 weeks early - she was a NIGHTMARE for the first 6/8 weeks but then got slowly got better. She has been sleeping 12 hours a night since 4 months old :j

She goes to sleep with a nightlight on and the radio on classic FM - its helped her to have the noise.

When she had colic I lifted the end of her cot using yellow pages! This seemed to help slightly. She was colicy (sp?) until about 4 months but it got easier to cope with because we were getting more sleep!

Keep us up to date....... although it may not seem like it but it will get better soon. Make sure you and your partner eat well - it helps, trust me :D

Wife has just nipped out for the Omneo comfort. We will try the radio tonight. 12 and 14 hours sleep per night seems unbelievable. Do the babies sleep in the day as well or are you making them run marathon's all day?

    LOL!
Baby Kit is 6 months old on Thursday. Generally she goes to bed at 7pm, wakes up at 7am. She then sleeps again at about 9.30am for about 1.5 to 2 hours. In the afternoon she sleeps for about an hour or so.

As I mentioned before, I am strict with her bedtime. She knows when it is time for bed and rarely plays up. She only has her 'bedtime' bear in her cot..... I dont encourage her to play in her cot so she knows that when she goes in it then its time to sleep.

i've think i've been pretty lucky with my two.

My boy is 2 and a half years next week, and he sleeps for 12 hours (7pm-7am) but he doesnt sleep during the day.

My girl, is nearly 9 months old, and she can sleep 12-14 hours a night, with a short nap or two during the day.

Things do get easier with time, but its good that shes learning to settle and sleep by herself. a few nights of crying, she'll soon get the message that she has to settle herself.

    good luck.

Before baby was born my wife said looking after babies is a 24/7 occupation. Typical man, I said babies sleep most of the time. After the first few weeks I was begining to think she was right about the 24/7.

It's nice to know there is the potential for our baby to sleep 12+ hours per day.

Well, before you get your hopes up, our daughter never managed more than 10 hours in a row, plus day time naps. Still, I guess you'd be happy with 10 hrs! Actually, in her first couple of months she used to sleep for about 3 lots of 4 hours - early evening, late night feed, sleep till about 3 am, another feed, sleep until we were moving around in the morning.
