The new CEO of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett, has openly stated in an interview that they think net neutrality is a load of B!!!!!!S and claimed they're already doing deals to deliver some peoples content faster than others.
They would then put websites and services that don't pay Virgin in the slow lane meaning those sites would load slowly and cause most users to give up using them, feeling forced to use whatever Virgin wants to push through their network.
This is not the first time an internet provider infringes upon net neutrality, but it is the first time that an ISP so brutally states that they simply plan to limit internet access to a television-like system in which the access provider completely regulates the content you have access to.
Virgin Media has over 3.5 million customers in the UK and the real danger is that when they start applying this system to their network, all major internet providers around the globe will soon follow the trend. Because this is exactly what major ISP's have been wanting to do for years.
But we can stop it.

Typical Brit. But according to Berkett “this net-neutrality thing is a load of b0ll0cks.” He says that Virgin Media is already talking to content suppliers and application makers, including gaming companies, about how they might access the Virgin Media subscriber base more effectively. He admits that public service broadcasters such as the BBC, which are unwilling to pay for access, might end up in slower “bus lanes”.

Throttling
Most users: 16:00 - 21:00 download full whack for 20 mins and you get your service throttled for 5 hours from when you hit the limit, also upload too much and get hit.
See: http://abcde.co.uk/virginmedia/stm.html and http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php
Then there's for certain areas:
Hi,
I know there have been many queries regarding STM (Traffic Management), and
below is the official statement regarding changes to the STM policy.
If you have any questions or comments, please can I ask that you post these
in the Feedback group (virginmedia.feedback) to keep the support groups
clear for the team to respond to service affecting issues. This has been
cross-posted to feedback.
Thankyou.
STM Statement:
· As part of our continued efforts to improve our customer's broadband
experience we are continuing to trial measures which will more efficiently
and pro-actively manage network traffic.
· As part of our continued efforts to improve our customer's broadband
experience, we are making changes to the current Traffic Management Policy
within certain trial regions.
· This updated policy will be trialed within the following regions
Preston, Wigan, Blackpool, Camden, Dalston, Enfield and Haringey.
· These measures are based on policies that detect traffic patterns
that are deemed potentially abnormal and apply traffic management rules to
ensure that other customers are not adversely affected by this traffic.
· The trial aims to prevent or reduce the effects of a minority of
users abusing the network and preventing the majority of subscribers from
having the network performance they desire.
· For the vast majority of customers, upwards of 95% of the base,
their experience will be a more consistent speed (both upload and download).
· Those who have the policies applied to their connection will
experience their download / upload speed being constrained (less than 5%
affected). Breach of acceptable use policy may lead to these policies being
applied.
· These optimisation policies are being trialed during the following
times where the potential for abnormal traffic has been identified as having
the greatest adverse impact on our customers' experience.
10am - 3pm Download only
4pm - 9pm Download
3pm - 8pm Upload
During these times the following thresholds will be applied for upstream and
downstream.

Would MSE exist as it is if it was very slow to access at all times because they have not paid Virgin for the extra speed?
Think about it.
Yes it's only Virgin today, tomorrow the whole internet.0 -
Use a decent ISP and you won't have trouble with throttling, or Phorm... or any of this nonsense.
If you pay the cheapest price, really you can't complain.0 -

I disagree, no matter what the price you and virgin have a contract both ways and if they are changing the contract to such an extent it makes surfing an unjoyable experience then they have broke their part of the contract, also as I signed up with them about 5 years ago (blueyonder) the service was top notch but now its awful, speeds slow down at night and customer service is non-existent, and yet when I signed up they didnt tell me the service was goint to end up !!!!!!. :mad:0
