Is this a scam

Hi
Over the last month, I've had two payments into my current account, both of £1000 and both form egg banking. I have no idea who they are from, and can't think of any reason for them. Is this the some sore of elaborate scam?
If it is just a mistake and egg have, for no reason, paid me £2000, do I get to keep it?

What did egg say when you called them about it?0

If it isn't your money, then you are not legally entitled to keep it.
It probably isn't Egg's money. What if someone has mistyped their account number, and the money has gone into your account instead of theirs? Here I go again on my own....0 -
If you keep it and spend it you are in big trouble,as this recent court-case shows :- http://news.bbc.co.uk/nolpda/ukfs_news/hi/newsid_7143000/7143446.stmWhat part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

What I find strange about this post is the title:
"Is this a scam"
If this had happened to me, I'd have got in touch with the Bank concerned immediately, thinking it was a MISTAKE rather than a scam.
Has anyone on here ever been scammed after being "given" £2000?If it is just a mistake and egg have, for no reason, paid me £2000, do I get to keep it?
I can just imagine the conversation with Egg:
"I'm sorry, sir/madam, we transferred £2000 into someone else's account by mistake so they get to keep it".
I hope by now you've been in touch with Egg about this money that doesn't belong to you.0 -

Maybe the OP would like to consider how they would feel if the boot was on the other foot.

Well if that's the way scams work then I'm all for being scammed."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Exactly, Superscaper.
I guess you've never been 'scammed' in this way, either.
I think it's time for a bit of honesty here from the OP.
It's almost certainly not your money and I'm sure that if you don't tell Egg about their mistake (that's spelled m i s t a k e, by the way not s c a m) soon, they'll find out.0 -

Even assuming or suspecting it was some sort of scam and not a mistake, wouldn't contacting the bank be exactly the same response/first step to take? I wonder if OP was merely looking for support/permission to "take the money and run"."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Good point, Superscaper.
I DO know that if that had happened to me, my first step wouldn't have been to post about it on a money-saving website under a 'Warnings & Rip-offs' forum.0 -

Thanks for the lecture from your moral high horses! I hope you enjoy it up there.
I have actually contacted my bank (I did it before I posted here) they are in the process of investigating the payments, although this does take a few days. So i was just asking here for some advice, in what should be an open and friendly forum.
I would prefer it if you didn't make moral judgements about me, based on very few facts. Your holier than thou attitude come across as rudeness and arrogance when it it based on such little knowledge!

"I wonder if OP was merely looking for support/permission to " Wasn't an explicit statement and was from you wanting to keep the money from the question you put. Which you wouldn't have if your sole concern was protecting yourself from a scam.
Exactly what lecture? My first post was a lighthearted joke. Second post was a rhetorical question of first thing to do if it was a scam. Which as you've now confirmed was something you actually did, so was hardly off the mark for suggesting it.
Can't believe you inferred so much from so few words. Maybe your comment on making judgements on so little actually applies here."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
