Medical examination every 6 months

I have been on benefits for 6 months and i have a medical thingy coming up the appointments this weekend.

They said i need to bring my medication with my but i do not take medication for my anxiety & depression because I am scared of the side effects & its also against my beliefs tot ake meds.

Will this have a effect on my medical meeting this weekend?.

No this should not have an effect on your medical because you will probably be asked about your typical day and questions relating to your problems to see if you score enough points to remain on Incapacity Benefit, the fact you dont take any medication does not really come into it.
  • hi i went for a medicial and they are really hard i have bpd and i also have a career and the doctor would'nt even let me stay on incapacity so i apeled and got it but they are really hard to convince as you can see with me having a serious illness and they woundt let me have it the first time good look though .

I went for my Medical on Monday and I was only in there 20 minutes. It felt like they didnt fully cover everything. It would of been nice if at the end of the interview they asked you if they have covered everything. But it just stopped.

Ive got a feeling that mine is going be stopped as the excercises she asked me to do I could do but I did say to her that Im having a good day today.

Does anyone know even if you could do the excercises but verballly told her your problems eg: Pain etc when carrying out daily activities that they could still let you claim?

Do people go to the Medical for the Decision Maker to decide if you are totally incapable to work or can the Decision Maker say that you could consider doing a certain amount of work and still claim? Eg:Permitted work>

The medical that you had is to decide if you qualify for incapacity benefit, if it is decided that you are capable of work you can appeal to an independent tribunal. Permitted work can be done by people who have passed the medical.

    Thank you.

So do I now need to wait for the results to know whether I can do Permitted Work? They said that it takes a couple of weeks but could it be sooner?

What happens if all else fails, I go back to work but I do more damage to myself or Im in pain at work from my problems?

    Could I make a complaint?

Yes I think you would need to wait for the result because permitted work is for those on IB, but you could check with the Jobcentre Plus to be sure. If you are not on IB permitted work would not be relevant. People usually hear the result in 3 or 4 weeks after a medical but it could be sooner or longer. I dont think you would get very far making a complaint if you have problems in the future if you fail the PCA.

kentguy07 - I don't know if not taking medication will affect the result of your claim but if you give a clear explanation of why you don't take it, hopefully they will accept it. Before you go, write down important points of what you need to tell them as you could get overwhelmed and anxious and miss out an important fact.
