    ...what doe s TIMESLIP mean?

You can start watching something which is still recording.

Ie. you can "pause" live TV while you go to the loo.

Having timeslip makes a DVD player a genuine alternative to Sky Plus (although you don't get the benefit of two tuners (ie. being able to wach one sky channel while recording another)). Ones without timeslip are just like very very good quality VCRs.
  • Anyone know if the Panasonic PVR has sorted it teething problems yet? I was going to buy one but alot of people report freezing and the such. They sent out an over the air update to existing users in June or something and have made improvements so the ones being sold now should be ok. Wondered if anyone actually had one?

    Cheers

Panasonic TUCTH100 - Digital Freeview 80gb Hdd Twin-Tuner by the way!

This is a sub £100 dvd recorder with DVD-RAM for timeslip.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=90673

or use quick find code 90673 at https://www.ebuyer.co.uk

This is a top quality graded stock The story behind this is that the initial batch of these recorders had a loading problem that was related to some issue that caused them all to be returned to Phillips for refurbishing. They are like new and come with a 12 month guarentee. They play all my DVD-R backups and have read everybrand of DVD-RAM DVD-RW that I have put in.The picture quality is excellant even on 4 hour recordings.

Connectivity is fantastic I have my video recorder/camcorder (via firewire) and wireless receiver from cable box downstairs plugged and it does it all.

    This is a JVC.
Why would JVC recorders be refurbished by Philips ?

DVD-RAM is a 'portable' HD in simple terms. It uses technology the same as a HD that's why it can record timeslip, however, converting from DVD-RAM to DVD-R for archiving is not possible on a DVD-RAM unit and requires the use of a PC and some software. With a real HD based DVD, it's much easier to just save from the HD to DVD-R on the unit itself(on the other hand some people prefer the RAm route as using the PC to convert/edit to DVD-R offers much more functionality than a HD based system, mostly because it would make a HD system so complicated to have very advanced editing functions etc)

    Sorry meant to say JVC

The advantage of DVD-RAM is that as said above you can record a programme go downstairs make your tea then start watching it from the beginning or another programme already on the disc.

A Hard drive player obviously is better but they are more than twice the price at the moment.

Plus with DVD RAM if you have a DVD RAM player such as the LG on your PC your can then copy the content of the disc to your PC's hard drive and edit before putting onto a cheaper DVD-R/+R to play on a any stand alone DVD player

Forgot to mention that this does come with full 12 months guarentee too

No RGB input on the scart on JVC ones meaning recording from sky not as good as it should be.
