I get the feeling i rolled over too easily ??

Hi everyone ,
I will try and keep this as short as possible , for the last 3 years the tax credits said i owed them 13,000 due to overpayments which i dispute and have done twice i also have bank statements and all my recorded calls and logs from them . Even with this they were having none of it and still said i owe them . Anyway it got so bad last year and i was heavily pregnant with my 4th child that i had enough and gave in , i set up a payment plan which actually means i am paying them back until the day after my 87th birthday at £20 month  I still dont think i owe the money they say, i have always kept them up to date with changes . How can i make them see its their fault or is it just too late .

    Rolled over too easily?

By the looks of it you've got away easy with paying £20pm on a £13,000 debt. Its highly likely your debt will never be paid as no doubt you'll pop your cloggs 10yrs earlier at age of 77.

If i was in charge, i'd stop your tax credits until you had paid the full £13000 (you could argue interest on top too)

Sorry, people that get themselves in such a mess have no sympathy from me. How can you receive £13000 worth of additional benefits and not know you weren't entitled to them??

Blind ignorance is not an excuse.

thats my point i didnt they say goeid not receive the money the claim was terminated before it even came into affect they have all this on the system . But still say they paid even though i have bank statments to say otherwise.

I followed the proceedure recommended by cab and inland revenue but what they say goes

Got you, so they haven't paid you additional money then? I thought you owed them £13000 and didn't want to pay them back. Silly me.

Why have you decided to pay them back if you know you are right?

Where is the £13000 figure coming from then? Surely the inland revenue just didn't pluck it from the sky and make it up???

Also what do your bank statements prove? Were you receiving tax credits, but at a lower amount than they said you did?

The bank trail should clear your name then? As long as the bank accounts match of course.

Calm down and hold on, there will be some people who know what they are talking about on here at some point, unfortunately you always get some bl**dy minded people on here having a pop at someone. I'm no expert but I would contact them again. £13,000 is a lot of money to pay back if you don't need to. Good luck

Your initial post is very vague, there are no details in there for people to help you with.

Surely you need to post all the details for good advice? I.e the money that was paid to you, the money you are disputing and why etc.

Its still unclear to me if you've actually been overpaid £13000 or not. If not where is the £13000 coming from?
  • Have they stated how they overpaid you?

Are you stating that you were never paid the £13,000 at all? Or did they pay it to you then say you were overpaid? If you are not sure exactly how it happened you should request that they send out a written explanation of how it happened.

Not meaning to be rude to the OP, but it's that type of 'forget it' attitute that is why you probably havn't sorted it out..

Stick around and give people the info they need to help you out.. words can be read in a million different ways to what people meant them to xxx
