in Water bills
About this time last year, I posted on here about Mum & Dad's water bill.
They live in a 2 bedroom warden-controlled council flat and were paying around £300 per annum (based on rateable value, not metered).
Cardew (Hey! Thanks! :A ) gave me some good advice and we arranged for a water meter to be fitted in June last year.
They started paying just under £18 per month and their latest bill has just come in - charges of £66!
With the credit brought forward from the previous 6 months, they are now a whopping £122 in credit!!!!
Strangely, Severn Trent still said they were going to take the monthly direct debit but I rang them and they are now going to refund the credit and recalculate the monthly DD - which is likely to be less than the £18 pm.
Mum & Dad are away a fair bit of the summer anyway so we're fairly happy with a reduced direct debit.
So, a very happy pair of OAPs with a bit more money in their pockets. :j

just keep an eye on the new dd amount or they may underbill your parents.
they normally send an advisory note as well.
Also the bill was it 2 actual reads?
Not trying to scare you but if they underestimated the next actual will bring it into line and they'll get billed for it.
I'm just trying to warn you of possibles.
if the meters internal it might be worth getting someone to keep a weekly log of the reads.i'm one of them there water board feloows0 -

thanks for the 'heads up' about estimated or actual readings - I checked Mum's bill yesterday and they are actual.
We did expect their usage to be very low.
Mum & Dad are OK with the idea that their DD may need to increase from the lower amount recently set by Severn Trent if their usage increases (unlikely) or if ST put the charges up.
Thanks again0
