keep failing credit checks
I am looking get a pay monthly phone for my 16 yr old, something with free texts, but i keep failing the credit checks!! (not suprising really), but does anyone know of any company who are more likely to accept?? or who would let me pay some sort of upfront fee/deposit so its risk free for them?
thanks

Most of the networks do a deposit system - but thats based on your credit score. If you've just failed & not been offered this it could be that your credit is not good enough for a deposit (sorry). It is the network that checks you, not the company who supplies the phone.
Plus if you've done a few checks recently that will also make you look worse. Who have you tried?Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...0 -
thanks, ive tried t mobile and vodaphone so far?
another option is to buy a phone and go on to PAYG, but where can i buy a cheapish phone? seem alot of money on ebay??
thanks0 -
if credit is an issue then having a pay monthly contract with a potentially limitless exposure seems a bit risky, surely PAYG is the better option to control potential spend. The majority of providers have deals offering texts based on top-up amounts i.e. 300 texts for £10 top-up each month. As for the 'high cost' of PAYG I'm not sure thats valid, just because a contract phone is 'free' you are still paying a monthly amoun to cover that cost whichever way you look at it.0

Try the 02 simplicity £15 a month - no minimum term, just 30 days notice. If you go through quidco you'll also get £50 I think cashback!
Credit rating shouldn't matter so much with no minimum term, hopefully!

by the way, the more you try to get credit (and fail), the worse it makes your creditworthiness as all those searches show up on the report used by the next place you apply to... bit of a downward spiral
you can readily get cheap PAYG phones - look at carphone warehouse and e2save, call up Virgin about their reconditioned phones too (all depends on which network, but you can get a useable phone for <£20, though it won't be the latest/greatest/must have)The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

O2 do credit score you when you apply for a monthly contract, even for a SIM only one. I know I was 'scored' for it as it showed on my report.Try the 02 simplicity £15 a month - no minimum term, just 30 days notice. If you go through quidco you'll also get £50 I think cashback!

Unless you know your child will be almost certainly responsible for the calls made on the phone, then it's best not to get a contract for them as they maybe able to run up a high bill - which the onus on you will be to pay for.0 -
yes ik know that was why i was wanting the t mobile ufix tarrif, where u cant go over your set monthly limit.
I may appear daft but im not that stupid!! lolO2 do credit score you when you apply for a monthly contract, even for a SIM only one. I know I was 'scored' for it as it showed on my report.

I'm not sure that U-Fix is any better value for money than PAYG.0

I would agree, Flat12 with Stretch on 3Pay is an example of one PAYG that is better value.

If memory serves me a u-fix does have a lower required credit score due to the way that they account is barred from going over the allowance per month, it may be worth while checking on that again, although PAYG may be cheaper in the long run. I think that almighty Tesco have a relatively good offer at the moment, £15 top up for 500 sms or 150 xnet mins + if you set a regular automatic top up you get 10 back.
