Greedy & Selfish Brits Abroard

Just back from a weeks holiday in Majorca with OH and 2 daughters and had a great time.

HOWEVER we were totally ashamed and disgusted at certain fellow brits who stayed at the hotel.Meal times was a vulgar and shocking sight, one family of 9 from Liverpool ( and proud of it ) would make such a mess when there that certain areas of the room had to be cordened off so staff could clean up the mess they made. It was also self service at the food counter which they seemed to think meant that the food put out was ALL for them, the 2 teenage boys in the group were a disgrace and seemed to be in competition on who could pile the most food on their plate and on one particular visit to the hotplate a FULL tray of 10 portions of beef was divided between themselves topped with fries .... I kid you not THEY TOOK THE LOT again however if this was not bad enough they then proceeded to eat only the fries and took only one bite of the beef claiming it was like dog meat ( dont know how they claim to know what dog meat tastes like ) but the lot was scrapped into the food waste bin by staff, they then had the cheek to get up and take a FULL pizza topped again with fries and also left half of that. After that we avoided meal times when this family were there but they must have still been up to their tricks as whenever you passed other guests they all commented on their antics ( including throwing food at each other ) and what was being WASTED by ALL members of the group even the PARENTS.

Dont get me wrong I am all for getting value for money but this was just SHEER GREED on a massive scale.

I've witnessed people like this before. A friend once forced me to McDonalds and it seemed to be viewed as normal behaviour to make a massive mess.

When you say that part of the room had to be cordoned off,do you mean they put them in a pig pen!
  • TBH that would have been an insult to pigs.....

The reason the room was cordened off was because so much food had fallen from their overflowing plates that food was everywhere and each time they got up to get more food more and more food was falling from plates that had been left from previous visits to the hotplate, this then resulted in other guests slipping on food spread about the floor ..... one little dutch girl slipped and hurt herself because of the mess.

I KID YOU NOT ........ THEY TOOK THE LOT

The annoying thing was there was not a flicker of respect for anyone around them and no shame from the parents who were just as bad as the kids.

Haven't been in one in years but I did always feel like I was some kind of freak because I piled everything on the tray and specifically put everything in the bin before I left.

Also from other side I worked in one when I was 16 and it's unbelievable the amount of mess people can make (one wonders if some simply throw the food around) and they'll throw things on the floor in front of the bins?!?

  • TBH I'd avoid anywhere like Majorca, the Costas, the Greek isles etc. like the plague. Whilst I appreciate that there are decent people like the OP holidaying in these kind of places, they are simply a magnet for chavs and morons. My bf is French and when I see Brits like this in France, I am frankly embarassed of my passport.

Plenty of places in Majorca and Greek Islands are chav-free (even found a couple of places on the Costas...). I generally stick with self-catering places these days - survival of the fittest and all that, your average moron seems to have reat difficulty looking after themselves so they cluster into the fifty quid a week all-incs.

To the OP, I know the kind of folk you mean, wonder what their own homes are like
