Charged for PUC code
I wonder if anybody out there can help. I've come to the end of my contract and the telecoms company I am with wants to charge me 30 pounds for the PUC code. Is this a reasonable charge?
I've emailed them to justify their costs but they seem to avoid answering this question.
Is there any suggestions/ideas you have how I could avoid paying this and still keep my number?
many thanks

Don't know how acceptable it is, but they are allowed to charge it.0

Why not name this company for the benefit of others? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

More than happy to name and shame:
GCI Telecom. They took over from Unity telecom.
I bought my phone from Costco when unity was there and now GCI are running the show.
There must be a way I can get my own PUC code just like I can get my own IMEI code?MSE Convert

The code you want is called a PAC. Your IMEI isn't really a code, more an ID number.
The PAC is generated by your network, and you cannot get your own.
They are entitled to ask for a fee, so you either bite the bullet, or just give up on your number.0 -

Sorry but the £30 charge is clearly stated in their Terms & Conditions here
Cheap and nasty trick used by a cheap and nasty company! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Not all would agree. Isn't it actually an "expensive" and nasty trick?
But there is a well worn out lesson here again.
Always read the ts + cs before you agree to them!0 -

I am surprised that you say that Quentin! How many other mobile operators charge their customers for a PAC? I suspected that it was UW before the company was mentioned. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Read the T&Cs as this is where all these lovely little clauses appear...companies spend a lot of time getting these right so you end up out of pocket...if you have had the number for ages and want to keep you will have to pay up...otherwise forget the number and the company.0

You have misunderstood me!
The disagreement is about whether this trick is really the cheap one you described it to be!!
And of course you were right to think that the utility warehouse would charge for a PAC. Needless to say they do. Twenty pounds!0 -

Apologies, I misread your post in haste.
