Claim back from Credit card provider instead of Paypal?

Dear folks,

Has anybody here been successful at claiming a payment back for a non-delivered item or been scammed in a transaction and was able to claim back from your credit card company instead of Paypal.

Question is because I am aware credit card companies don't honour Internet fraud protection for Paypal payments, so you won't be able to claim money back through them.

    It's worth a try.

Capital One refunded me when I was sold stolen gift vouchers that had been cancelled by the company.

This was after disputing the transaction with PayPal who had found in the sellers favour.

Thanks for your reply Becles! How long did Capital take to refund you your money back?

They sent out some forms in the post, where I had to give details about what happened. Once they got those back, it took about 2 weeks to go on my card.

However, Paypal and my credit card are still fighting each other about who is liable for the loss.

Why they can't take the money from the seller, I don't know

Becles, did you have to provide contact details of the seller? Was your seller based in the UK or Overseas? Cheers!

Yes - it's a UK seller and I had his name, address and landline telephone number. I know all were valid as I looked him up at Directory Enquiries and spoke to him on the phone (got a load of abuse too, but that's another story!). I passed all the details onto my credit card but I'm not sure if they took it further with him or not.

It wasn't compulsary to send the details, but I just sent every scrap of information to back up my side of the story.

  • I tried one with my CCC but they refused to get involved saying that paypal is not a retailer so different rules apply

It is always worth not taking the first answer that the CC company give you. They seem to like to wriggle out of responsibility and hope that a 'no' will put most people will not keep trying.

I like reading the Tony Hetherington pages in the Mail on Sunday as he often carries reports where CC companies have stated no responsibility where there is a clear and concise responsibility on them which they later admit.

The only time I thought i was going to have to make a claim via the cc company for a paypal item they were actually quite helpful and explained to me exactly what to do and how to proceed, that was First Direct BTW. I didn't have to go ahead though as the seller refunded me as he realised I wasn't go to go away and he needed his paypal account unfrozen.

    Soo

  • I've reversed a few paypal payments through the credit card (Barclaycard).

Last time just completed last week, just over £300 of goods not received. Standard form to fill in, had to send in Paypal payment receipts and the credits were made to the CC account about 14 days after I sent off the paperwork.

Thanks for your reply 5bellies, it sounds like there is a glimmer of hope left as I used Barclaycard. I have just spoken to them and requested that they send the forms to me. So we'll see how things go. Cheers!
