Rest asured that Dealtastic follow this legislation as a course of best practise and while I appreciate your concerns/fears I can confirm that, to date, having serviced thousands of customers, there has not been a single complaint concerning our email marketing.
As previously stated, Dealtastic follow best email marketing practises and adhere to the following:

-
If email addresses are to be used for marketing purposes, this should be clearly stated at the point of collection.
-
Once informed, the user should be able to refuse permission for their email to be used for marketing purposes (ie opt-out).
-
If email is to be sent to those with whom a customer relationship exists, the content should be in reference to similar products and services.
-
If the email addresses are to be shared with third parties, this should be clearly stated at the point of collection.
-
Email addresses should not be harvested (eg copied from websites) and used for marketing purposes without the recipients' knowledge.
-
Recipients should be able to refuse permission for further marketing messages to be sent to them at any time.
-
Your identity as the sender should never be disguised or concealed.
-
In every communication, recipients must be given a simple and clear means of opting out from receiving future emails.
-
When an opt-out request is received it must be honoured, with the contact details ideally being "suppressed" rather than deleted.
Furthermore...we are working to the following
1. 3 days after a customer signs up, they receive an email telling them about ways to save money on our site, including using the Refer a Friend.
2. 2 days after a a customer abandons a cart, they receive an email reminding them of their abandoned cart and asking them to come back and complete the order.
3. 13 days after an order is shipped (reaches "Complete" status), a customer receives an email (a) providing them with a discount coupon that can be used on their next purchase and (b) asking them to give a review of the products they purchased. [The extension allows us to choose to include / exclude different customer groups. We do send this email to our frequent buyers, because it means they would receive several requests for reviews every day.]
4. If a customer has no activity on our site for 15 days, they receive an email asking them to come back and check out our new products.
Again we are working very hard and are very proud of the effort and response from our customers, we have a long way to go and will learn from our mistakes, and listen to our customers as all good companys should. We are a very open site, and are willing to listen and engage on constructive feedback via our customer service contact info provided on our site, or our social media sites facebook and twitter..

Kevin

Still never answered the question.
When the site launched in August, I started to receive emails to 2 of my email accounts, one of which was never used for shopping and more worringly was addressed to my full credit card name. Eventually I worked out that the address had come from a Google checkout transaction. Of the 3 times I used google checkout, one was with Memorybits. So it would appear that you were using a database that had not been opted in to, since there is no connection between dealastic and Memorybits.
Its about integrity, professionalism and taking responsibility for your actions.
Apologies for going off topic on this thread, but reading posts #29 & 30# just got my gall. Bye.

Sorry everyone I couldn't resist it.
I noticed that a customer had complained that PayPal no longer worked on dealtastic's website. The response was "we no longer accept Paypal transactions-we are lowering our prices further and due to the Paypal Transaction charges we felt that this was the best move for our customers.".
Well get this, the eBay shop stores.ebay.co.uk/dealtasticcouk was shut 2 days ago (9th Dec 2010). So it would appear that PayPal have suspended the account.
Again it's about integrity, professionalism and taking responsibility for your actions.

Dear Jsoap,
Firstly, we need to be careful as these posts are getting borderline libellous, I refer to your comment "so it would appear" regarding us and ebay, and forgive me for defending the integrity of the company I work for as you have put it.
In actual fact the position with paypal and ebay is the complete opposite to your personal assumption.
Because of our site being so new, offering a range of in demand products at such amazing cheap prices and having a huge amount of growth and sales in such a short space of time, both companies are following their normal practise of confirming and securing our sites with them and looking at new advance payments systems between them and us.
If you will look at our customer feedback on ebay it is 100% confident. We have fulfilled all customer orders, and after the problems caused by the recent snow and ice weather conditions we are now back on track and working around the clock to get customers their orders in time for Christmas.
Again we have had some slight hic-ups, but as you have seen with the success of dealing with a couple of customers directly on this forum, we are very open and will go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty. The feedback to own our website, all our sales channels and our social networking sites have been very overwhelming and positive, we are very grateful for anyone giving us extra publicity, and the platform to show how serious we are as a company.
Our ebay and paypal accounts are in the final stages of checking with our new measures in place and will back online 100% secure after 1pm today. We have a strong and great working relationship with these both companies, who you are more than welcome to contact to confirm this for our UK, French and German Sites.
Regards
Kevin

Hmm, time is now 1.35pm on 14/12/10 and yet your Ebay store is still down?
http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewStoreV4&name=dealtasticcouk&_rdc=1
Guess it won't be back online, 100% secure by 1pm yesterday after all?
I notice that the one really pertinent question posed in this thread has not yet been addressed adequately. If Dealtastic is nothing to do with memorybits, why are you sending unsolicited SPAM messages to the memorybits mailing list? If there is no link then surely there should not be access to this database? And if there is a link then perhaps some further pertinent questions should be asked of the owner regarding the memorybits debacle?0 -

Shop still not up, though dealtasticcouk has been activated again. I also see from another thread that after suspending the account eBay were advising customers not to pay for items already ordered, and were reversing paypal transactions.
Nothing suspicious there then.0 -
wow! u sound totally impartial and definetly NOT working for City Treats! Sounds very like Groupon
LOL - how does that sound like Groupon? City Treats is an aggregator: it has deals from Groupon and the other decent providers as well - and it's the best one in the UK by a distance.0 -
If anyone is still looking for different daily deal sites I would look at registering with https://www.comparethevoucher.com
They send out a daily email with the deals for your area from Groupon, Livingsocial and KGB Deals (118118).
I think these are 3 of the biggest and I personally am a bit wary of some of these very small daily deal sites which are springing up, which seems like a good plan after reading about some of the problems people of had with some of the other firms.0 -
Groupon were on Watchdog the other week, so it's not just the smaller daily deal sites you have to be careful with.0
