With the best will in the world, nothing will change unless this part does.
An addiction to anything is usually insurmountable unless the addicted person themselves acknowledges the problems and wants to make them better.

Only to add to what everyone else has said.
If he is a compulsive gambler his debt is likely to be much higher.
The only real solution is to get himself to GA meetings and keep attending.
He won't beat it on his own, and he won't be able to gamble 'normally'.

I know just how to sort this out... Divorce!.... shouldn't have married in the first place.
Then get the CSA involved, who'll take the money straight from his employer... sorted0 -
sounds like its time to leave him. A gambler or not his first priority is to be a man and look after his wife and child. If he cant support them then he's failing in his one and only task.
She should give him the ultimatum. She should sit it down and paint the picture in black and white and then be ready to go through with it. Its times like these you have to harden your feelings and look at the facts. She needs to leave her heart out of the decision and see what kind of life her baby is getting whilst she stays with this man.
