Update-

We wrote a letter to Virgin explaining what had happened and have today received £84 back in travel vouchers. They explained that they could not refund the amount in a cheque but as gesture of goodwill have sent travel vouchers instead and we are pretty pleased with that outcome.

So thanks again to everyone who took the trouble to reply.

That's great - I find that Virgin are usually pretty good when it comes to refund - I usually write at least once a semester when they !!!!!! up the train service so badly that I have to ring my b/friend to get the kids from school as they're running so late!! They usually cough up enough for a couple of return trips.

They are pretty good most of the time, just when it goes wrong, they do it big time - LOL - never in the morning when I'm on the way into class and might possibly have to miss a lecture .
