Help using Vodafone unlock for SE K550i

I have been sent the following by Vodafone, but I'm falling at step 2:
Unlock Procedure
1. Remove the Vodafone SIM from the handset. Replace the battery and switch on
2. Move the jog dial left then press the * key twice and then move the jog dial left
3. Network appears on screen

Without the sim, the phone wants to show a demo for the phone. I'm unclear about what the jog dial left is. If I use the left (W) option on the central round NSEW navigation key, nothing happens. If I use the left button below the Demo option on the screen (not surprisingly) it shows the demo video - which keeps repeating. The leftmost semicircular button with a globe(?) icon doesn't seem to do anything.

Can anyone please explain what I should be doing?

its just left/right on the silver navigation pad (d-pad). jogdials are for smartphones like the p990 and w960

so you turn the phone on without the sim in it, key in <**< (< is left on d-pad) and you should be able to enter the unlock code

That is what I thought, and what I tried, but no response. Not getting 'Network' (or anything) appearing on the screen.

I'm doing it with no sim at all. Is this right?

In case anyone else wants to know the answer!

I put another sim in, then it allowed me to do the <**< to see 'Network'.
It then asked me to select MNC length (either 2 or 3) before I could type in the NCK unlock code given by Vodafone.
  • Hi PNEfan.

Ive checked on my own handset and confirm it doesn't actually matter which one you choose. Once you choose either MNC 2 or 3 it will then ask for the NCK unlocking code!

Sorry it took so long to reply!
