I have been sent a witty message twice from this number and I think I have been charged for the privelege. I haven't signed up for anything as far as i know, anybody recognise it and can advise how to stop it.

  • i had exactrly the same sort of thing eminating from 80160- 3 messages in a minute costing £1.50 each. The only way to stop it allegedly is to unsubscibe costing more money!

network provider was no help and i never use texts or have signed up to anything with this number.

contacting the number of the company who organises the texts proved a waste of time- they alleged they would email the company to refund the texts yet have done nothing

    Hi

I have had a problem with premium texts recently and in the last two months it has cost me over £30. I have cancelled them now, however is it possible to get my money back?

    Cheers

    Sam

You can register your phone number with TPS ( http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/)
    to prevent unsolicited sales calls.

accourding to icstis the number is registered eith the following people:

    Mind Matics Ltd
    Macmillan Building
    4 Crinan Street
    London
    N1 9XW
    020 7418 5560

Their tip to stop these is to reply with the word stop in the text or failing that stop all.

This may well have been posted before but I thought I'd just bring it to the forefront of people's minds again.

Like many people, I love to take part in the competitions held on the TV where you can simply text in the answer and that's that.

I don't know about other service providers, but '3' are really good about the price for SENDING these messages (these are to the five digit shortcode numbers) with all messages being priced at just 8.5p per messages.

But when t comes to RECEIVING messages from premium rate numbers, it's a completely different story. '3' charge 85.5 pence per message RECEIVED, and I suspect other providers charge equally astronomical prices.

Always be sure when signing up for text messaging services what the prices are. some companies, such as ITV with their quiz-by-text services are good as they tell you that the first message is chargeable, but subsequent messages received from them that form part of th quiz are free. but many don't. As a mater of information, the majority of numbers starting 63*** are free. I have done some research and found this to be the case most of the time. but numbers starting 8**** are nearly always chargeable at high rates. It's the same when signing up for online newsletters and opting to have them delivered by text. Always check to see how much they are going to cost you, and if in doubt, STICK TO E-MAIL.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers and take care.

    Hussein.
