Mobile Number Porting - now only 2 working days
Hi All,
Just thought it might be useful to know that due to Ofcom regulation, from the 1st April 2008 all mobile number ports will take 2 working days (originally 5 working days).
I have spoken to Virgin Mobile, T-mobile and Vodafone, all have confirmed this.
Have a look at the Ofcom website (Section 1.4b and 1.16):
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/gc18review/statement/
Under Section 1.19, Ofcom plan to make number porting a process that will take no longer than 2 hours by 1st September 2009.
All this is to increase competition among the airtime providers/networks and to make consumers more likely to switch providers if there is a better deal as they don't have to wait so long to have their mobile number ported.

This great news, but I know Vodafone have appealed against Ofcoms ruling into this two hour turnaround. Voda are saying that it is going to cost 10 times more to implement than the £12m ofcom has estimated. Serioulsy £12m where the hell does that figure come from.
O2 & Orange are supporting Voda in this appeal an no doubt T Mobile will follow too.
In fairness one point they raised is that it could increase slamming and mis-selling could increase with an increase in aggresive sales...
If I can move gas suppliers in 30 days surely mobile is easier...watch this space.:eek:0
